U.S. Federal Debt Held by the Public (1970-2024)

Found this in relation to bond markets and thought it interesting. 2008 crash had quite and impact as did covid.

One counter point is that when you sort by per capita debt USA is pretty far down. The countries high in the list seem to he productive economies and rich countries.

It hard to understand where this leads. Where is Tabs when you need him

A pizza cut into 32 slices is not a bigger pizza.
That is numbers of units.
Not economic production and strength.

So when you hear "growth"..

Far down? Per Taxpayer it's more than $150,000 each. I guess I can just mail in the keys of my house, and give them the cars to cover my immediate family.

Scary? I'm scared for my kids.

Yep! It's an IOU to each and every taxpayer. My favorite is "intragovernmental" debt where the government owes the government money.
