Just don't plug too close to the shoulder of the tire.
Repairs (plugs or patches) don't typically last too long on the edges of the tire tread. I have a kit from slime and it has come in handy many times.

If a pro shop wont do it... It's certainly worth a try.
I've used the push string/glue type in the past with good results (just don't trim the ends too short). Regarding the age of the tires: How fast can you go on snow tires? I don't know but I'm guessing not very fast at all.

I recently bought a kit from O'reilly that attaches to a power drill. It has a bit to auger/clean the hole then an attachment that spins while applying pressure on the drill to insert the plug.
Worked perfectly. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/slime/slime-drill-bit-tire-plug-kit/sli0/20502/v/a/28504/automotive-suv-2008-porsche-cayenne?q=tire+plug&pos=8

On ten year old may-pops I say 50 max.
If the subject tires are driven at 70............ ![]() 70 mph will kill you dead AF.

If the tires were 5 years old, I would have no problem plugging them. But a 10 year old snow tire is well past its useful life. As pointed out above, the compound hardens with age and snow tires work because their compound is softer at low temperatures.
Best of luck to you, but those old tires should go. Best Les

Beware of the plug installers with the plastic handle, I heard a story of one that broke under pressure and the metal rod went through the handle and right through the users hand.

I had one of those years ago. Separated the installer from the plastic handle and welded it to a piece of pipe for fear of that very thing!
