Sacramento Airshow

Anybody go to the Sacramento Airshow? Wow! Another great show. I've been to about 10 airshows. We had them every other year in Minden except last year. The show was in Reno replacing the air races. Haven't missed one in Minden but, didn't go to Reno.

We got to there show without tickets and they were sold out, except for the $800 VIP tickets. Spoke to someone and asked if they could squeeze b just 2 more in and was told they couldn't do that. But, we could watch from the parking lot for free. So, we went to Walmart and bought a cooler, than Safeway and bought beer, cheez its, cookies and a deli sandwich.

Almost no traffic when we returned to th parking lot. Drove to the far end of the parking lot and a few yards from the runway, carried the cooler and beer and enjoyed a great show.

Havevone question. I didn't recognize the plane that flew before the Blue Angles. Seems like they always flew an f18. Was it an f35 or f25?

You have to pay for air shows? I used to go to the Andrews AFB shows all the time and have been to one or two at Luke AFB. Free parking, free admission every time. With free parking and admission, the concessions being kind of expensive is a lot more tolerable.

The F-4 years must have been a touch noisier than most:cool:

Common for military bases to have an airshow for community relations/marketing/recruiting.

Civilian airshows typically have an admission fee.

Installations usually only pay for the fuel of the guest aircraft.

I love a good airshow! We have one at the local McConnell AFB every other year. It’s free to the public with ID and always a good time. Because it’s free it’s always PACKED. This year we camped out in a parking lot by the base to watch the Thunderbirds and avoid sitting in an hour of traffic.

I watched Friday practice from my backyard, and took bike rides during the show Saturday and Sunday.

They held the U-2 in a holding pattern over my house, as well as the P-47 & P-51. From the bike trail, I got to see the F-16 demonstrator (with red wings, interesting livery), heritage flight with B-25, P-47, Corsair, and Wildcat; And then of course the Blue Angels. Being north of the airport it was cool seeing the acceleration for the 'sneak pass'.

Coolest things I ever saw related to aircraft.....

Elmendorf AFB - 1989-ish - (First for me) F117 within a 150 foot circle of rope. One soldier in there standing guard with a very real gun. You never would have made it to touch it.

Burke Lakefront Airshow -1985 - I got right up next to the B-52 landing gear and it was so huge. Debbie, the smoking hot Jewish pharmacist was yelling at me to get back behind the ropes as deadly force was authorized. I walked right by the signs, Doh.

North Canton - 2006 - Akron Airshow - Home cleaning my pool and a B-2 flew right over the house from the airshow. Really low and slow - I won't even estimate but it's the topper of all. Jaw dropping.

Air related - Anchorage 1989 - Russian MIG went to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, for their airshow. Refueled in Anchorage and four US fighters escorted it to the NW (maybe west makes the most sense) border and they flew over my head while salmon fishing on a Friday evening.

Dover AFB - Brother was the main Dr there (maybe the only) and he drove me to the runway and we watched C5s do touch and gos. Seemed like ten feet from runway but was probably 200.

Edit: Space shuttle re-entered west of Houston in 1999 around 9:30PM. I'm in our mini van with the gang. Had no idea what it was but it there was very orange smoke behind it. It was way up there and just a speck but the "condensate" trail was awesome. Found out next day. News said look in the sky and the people went back in after it had passed and a a few minutes later it was landing.

My uncle flew 52’s in nam and commented on the quality of the air shows in his era compared today.

My last one was at Davis Monthan and was lack luster. Jelly Belly sponsored interstate cadet really stole that show.

That's great. Parts fall off the plane. Ha!

In laws have a big house on a hill in central KS, stands out for miles. The B1s used to come screaming in at treetop level in formation, pull up just before their house and split at full afterburner. Absolutely incredible to see if person. I asked one of their pilots at an air show and he told me they use my in laws’ house as a bombing target.:D

Arizona_928 03-24-2025 04:44 PM

I know some drone pilots that would use civvies as practice targets in Sierra Vista.

Same when I’m driving on the ranges at ntc.

Icemaster 03-24-2025 04:48 PM

This might be why a DH-98 Mosquito blew over my house at 750 feet yesterday. Freaked the wife and I out, sounded like it was coming up the driveway.

gduke2010 03-24-2025 07:43 PM

Another cool thing during the show as old warbirds flew over parts of the airport, fireworks or explosives were detonated for the bomb dropping effects. A loud bang with fire and a plume of smoke rising.

That's cool. I'm sure your Dad could have made them squirm. The more they knew the more they would sweat. lol

Let's see if DOGE cuts the airshows.
