thinking of selling some gold.

I dont have kids.

thinking of unloading some coins to use the money for fun-ass-stuff. hell, even a new watch is better use.

seems like Coins are easy to move. I have the ones that are in the Lethal Weapon movie..hahha..

what do I do? just walking into a precious coin shop?

Krugerrands? I sell mine face to face at coin and precious metal shops, don’t be shy about getting more than one quote. Also do a little research ahead of time about the specific coin to determine what premium above spot it might command if any.

My grandfather Auric would never recommend selling to a coin shop. Just on the Black Market.

Coin shops kinda are the black market. No reporting on transactions under $10,000. and they set their own buy/sell prices

Years back I sold some gold coins back to the bank I bought them at. FYI the gal said mine were scratched as they were not in the original plastic holder. She penalized me for that and gave me less money. Vash I would make sure they are spotless and in the originals frame or whatever they came in. Don't let them scam you and as the above mentioned get more than one quote.
Cheers, Guy

they have traveling roadshows that come through town all the time. I took my late mother's jewelry and coins and pearls there and weigh and bought everything. Easy peasy..

I bought 10 more ounces today. Better to buy than to sell now, it'll go up. Way up

The easiest place to buy gold is at a larger pawn shop. Not only are you going to pay the spot price, but a premium that can be anywhere from 2% to 5%. If you buy several at once, see if you can negotiate a lower premium price. And at a pawn shop you will be paying in cash.

Buy coins that are government minted, they tend to be easier to sell. I like the American buffalo coin or eagles. Krugerrands and Canadian Maple Leafs are also great options...

I apologize ... there have been lots of threads about purchasing gold/silver here on PPOT. I've purchased all my minted coins (I only like US Eagles/Buffalo now), and have never even seen them in the few coin shops, etc. years ago. I've had all kinds before ... all purchased online when it was spot +50/100 ... cheaper than what local retailers wanted ... for icky Mapleleafs & Krugs .

When selling to a local metal buyer/seller (I dumped some once to buy land) it's just spot -x ... no difference in any of them really ... or so he said .

It cost a bundle to buy & sell gold I have found ... but they sure look shiney

I've used three different online sources to buy ... none recently.

Just saw that you are in Dahlonega. The Silver Dollar in Alpharetta is a great place to buy and sell. They are pros. Highly recommend you check them out.

Gold is crazy now won't get spot

Expect pawnshops and gold buyers to be at 75% and hopefully your local coin shop to be around 95%

+/- a few percent depending on mint or generic. Scrap jewelry and bit less

Doesn't take much gold at 5k spot to be worth $$$

PPOT braintrust: The flip side of Vash's question: is it too late to buy gold?
