When I was a teen, there was an empty lot near us that had blackberries growing. We'd eat them while we were out playing.

My property now is full of dewberries, and I eat them from time to time. Dewberries are basically the native, non-hybridized version of blackberries. They are usually smaller and not quite as sweet, but still very tasty.

I've never been able to change a thread title after posting a thread. I don't think it's possible unless you're an admin. I suspect it has to do with the fact that the thread title gets into the database as the link to the thread, so they don't want just anyone to be able to do an update/change whenever they want.

Yep, thems is Blueberrys fer sure. I didn't know they grew that far south.

They could have been the poisonous southern cousin of the Northern Blueberry - the deadly Southern Blueberry. What do they taste like?

Planted 25 elderberry bushes in the front and back woods on Tuesday to hide the house from the neighbors. If they grow, I will plant more next year.

See post 23

Blueberries like a soil that's slightly acid. Those look like low bush variety.
As they become ripe, you can cover the plants with a light colored translucent cloth to keep the birds off until they are ready to pick.

On the vein of fruit for harvest, my wife came home the other day with a Bartlett pear tree which was planted in the front yard. She said she had stopped by the green house and asked about pears. The lady told her in order to bear fruit you need two trees. They usually have both Clapp and Bartlett varieties but only had one tree left. My wife brought that home, advising me we would get the Clapp next year.
