Elder Scams...

Have a mid sixtiies female friend that's being 'courted' by a S. Korean guy. Says he's buying a house in the U.S. Shows her a big bank account...

Divorce happening soon. Not a lot of $ involved but some.

Really? Sounds like BS to me.

Where there is smoke, there is fire and looks like Red Flags are flying too

Big time. Desperate people do dumb stuff. Just curious if this scenario had precedents.

Like that Thai girlfriend...

Young73z 05-12-2025 07:36 PM

Maybe he knows my Nigerian cousing who has been trying to get a hold of me for a while...

thingmon 05-12-2025 07:48 PM

Well, he does have a pile of cash... supposedly.

sc_rufctr 05-12-2025 07:51 PM

A S. Korean guy with a pile of cash wants to date a mid sixties lady?

How old is he?

thingmon 05-12-2025 08:02 PM

Similar age, I think. Not all details have been shared.

thingmon 05-12-2025 08:02 PM

Just enough to raise my eyebrow.

LWJ 05-12-2025 08:34 PM

Weird.

I saw a lovely American woman marry a horribly unwell man from Egypt. He barely spoke English and was frankly very unattractive.

All because she was desperate to rise up into the middle + class.

Arg. That one was a mess.

thingmon 05-12-2025 08:37 PM

She probably did ok. I think this situation may the reverse of that.

Romance scams are big. Small fries for the FBI and rarely prosecuted.

Yes, they start off slow and build a friendship. Then who would have thought "I was on my way to buy an airline ticket to visit you but was struck down by cancer on the way there. My medical insurance was cancelled because I visualised a new life with you in a new country. So with no money I guess I'm going to die as I can't pay the medical bill."

What normal person shows their bank account to someone before they have even met, let alone after many, many dates?

She should tell him to let her know when he moves here to get in touch to meet for coffee.

Now to just wait until he asks for money, because is account is frozen until the house sale goes through!

Dixie 05-13-2025 04:40 AM

Yes, it's a scam.
If you can't meet up with your guy or gal on short notice, and in the flesh, you're not dating. You're deluding yourself.

Catfishing. Cut them off.

A friend showed me a pic of a military guy "courting her" as well as the other girl he had just met and forwarded a picture to her. Did an image search and the pictures showed up all over the place in unrelated websites.

Another young, super handsome German guy was interested in another lady friend and he had a construction business in Germany and a worker was killed in an accident and he was thrown in jail as responsible. Needed money for release but at least my friend saw through this one.

Yeah, me too. I'm a billionaire (trust fund). I'm also a really hot 24.5 yo female with daddy issues and I think you're really cute! I can get the money out of my trust fund when I'm 25. In the mean time, can you loan me a little money? I'll pay you back with interest in 6 months.
:D

I wouldn't trust sheisse on the Internet. People can and do say anything to scam other folks out of money. It starts with believable stories but eventually turns into a monetary thing where folks get scammed. Lots of scams run on folks in their 60s and up.
