Your favorite Winter?

In '73 I was blasting both ....

In hindsight .... back then, Johnny was a "nobody" an Edgar was a "rock star"... but JW - Live was epic.

I was a stoopid 13 year old too...

My ears are still ringing from a JW club show in Jax in the late 80s...

Johnny had the blues .... and it ROCKED...

Steinbeck's one of our discontent.

Shaun @ Tru6 05-29-2025 04:49 AM

Edgar.

And a RIP to Rick Derringer.

Back then I was blasting Frankenstein on an 8 track tape.

RD was prominent in both Winter's bands fwiw...

Johnny was the blues guy ... Muddy Water's albums, etc. later and Edgar was the "rock star".

Loved 'em both :)

I saw Johnny Winter at Zepplinfeld in Nurnburg. Ted Nugent was the headliner. Johnny tore it up for over an hour playing the blues. He then said "Enough of the blues bringing you down, let's cheer everybody up with some rock and roll!" and proceeded to play another hour.

His drummer Bobby Torello was amazing. Also saw Edgar at the Ventura County Fair, no comparison. I once drove from LA to New York with only Let It Bleed from the Stones and Winter of '88 by JW as musical accompaniment.

Johnny was awesome ... at 13... I thought Edgar was too ... but JW endured :)

Richard III wasn't bad, either.

Johnny

maxnine11 05-29-2025 05:07 PM

Jonathan.

Thought he was the funniest. Spelled his last name with an "s" at the end.
Probably to differentiate him from the other Johnny.
Or to indicate that there were more than one...

He used to crack me up on Carson's show years ago too!

When I read the title I was thinking 1978. My gf and I were literally snowbound in my apartment for a day and a half. Barely got out of bed. sigh

Tin Pan Alley by JW becomes a real place.

otto_kretschmer 05-31-2025 08:28 PM

I saw Johnny Winter in San Diego a long time ago when I was in the Nav. He put on a good show but I don't remember much. This was maybe in 1990.
