UUUGGHHH, why is nothing ever easy?
 

This morning my computer had a slight problem booting up. From the messages I was able to read before it actually did boot, I got the impression my system battery was about to die. My wife's machine suffered the same fate a couple weeks ago so I figured it was probably the cause on mine too.
So, I replaced the battery. Slightly harder on mine since they buried it up near the front and under a panel, but, I got it changed.
What I didn't notice was that I accidentally pulled a hard drive connector a little bit out of its socket. So when I went to power it up again, it wouldn't boot and asked me to go into the BIOS and select a drive and boot sequence.
When I did that it wouldn't 'take' as in it wouldn't boot, again asking for a drive to be selected.

After repeating my BIOS entries again, for about the sixth time, it dawned on me that the HD wasn't showing in the configuration pages of the BIOS menu.

That's when I took the side cover off and found the loose connector.

That solved one problem.

The next time I asked it to boot it said 'Preparing for automatic repair'.

Now the BIOS says the boot drive is Windows Boot Manager. And it takes a long time to boot up.

How do I get rid of Windows Boot Manager and just get back to my hard drive being the boot device?

Sorry this is so long winded, I've only been at it for 3 hours now.

In theory...now that you've gotten the hard drive plugged back in, it SHOULD be selectable in your BIOS setup and you just go re-assign it as your boot drive.

I think Windows Boot manager is the way your Drive C will boot. It is what my computer wants and uses. My boot process is a bit slow as it has to count through the 256 gig of RAM, and the multiple hard drives on the system.

You might get the exact model of your motherboard, and look on the manufacturers web site for a BIOS upgrade. They are usually free, and they have some security improvements.
