A scare with my Civic today.

Backing out of my garage this morning, with the XM radio playing, I heard some distortion (I thought) while rolling slowly. Turned the radio down and it was a loud grinding, scratching noise.
I suddenly remembered that I took the Swagman bike carrier off earlier in the morning.
Had I left it on the floor behind the Civic?

Got out and looked under the car...no Swagman wedged underneath. The car rolls very easily, so I pushed it back and forth a couple times and the sound was terrible.
Something rubbing/scraping....it sounded like I was dragging my whole exhaust system.

A light bulb turned on and I remembered the same happening with my Prelude a year or so ago.

A stone wedged in my front disc brake dust cover. :)

Drove it around my circle driveway at a fast pace once and it worked/bounced it's way out.
Maybe it's a common thing..but it's only the second time I've had it happen.

glad it was an easy fix for a non-catastrophic issue. Weird sounds SUCK!

^^^ I was surprised that one stone can make that much sound. It sounded loud inside the car with the windows up.

I don't know why. but my previous Corolla used to have that happen. Umm, maybe 3 or 4 times.

There is a open empty parking area ear me so I'd drive around backwards with the brake slightly on then off and turning. It would flick the stone out in moment.

Certainly is a worrying sound

Our County is doing a lot of road improvements lately.
They can't afford asphalt, so they use the tar and stone method. Which results in lots of little stones waiting to get picked up by tire treads. :)

I thought you backed into the hoisted garden tractor

nothing like a rock in the brakes to get you on edge.
Car folk are more tuned into that sort of thing and it's cruel when it happens to us.

I had a pebble get stuck in my brakes recently- same deal.
Also the brake dust cover slightly hit the rotor. It was close, and when coming down the mountain under braking, things would heat up and expand just enough to rub.

At least the fixes are easy!

I'm glad to hear that a few of you have experienced the same. I was wondering if it only happens to me.

Btw...if I back into the hoisted Deere...you'll never hear of it.:D
