Removing paint without scraping
Refurbishing the surface of my 18X26 foot deck. There are multiple boards that have peeling coating. I last covered it about 15 years ago with Behr Deck Over. So, I'm using the same to renew it.
Scraping peeled paint is usually the worst part of a job like this. I bought a couple wheels for my Bauer right angle grinder and went to work. They worked great and saved me at least half the time.(prob more) It took two full charges of the 5 amp battery to finish it. Tomorrow I'll start with the new Deck Over. ![]()

I should also say that the 'paint removal wheels' cost about $10 each and the Behr Deck Over is up to $50/gallon now. Last time I bought it...it was $30/gallon.
I bought 2 gallons...might need 1 more.

Those discs work pretty well for that kind of thing. I have some for my 7" grinder iv used a few times for heavy work. If you cut off like 1/2" off the bottom of your guard it will lay flatter and not dig in so much

^^^
Mine has a clamp holding the guard on...you can see it in the pic. I never had a time when it dug in....but next time, I'll leave it off. I can see how it would help in tight spaces.

Maybe a quarter done with the Deck Over. The stuff goes on like mud....making a gallon not go so far...lol
It might take 4 gals for the whole thing. Padre Brown ![]()

Uhh!! That sounds like the worst job ever. Knee pads required. Couldn't you have rented a floor sander?

^^^ I use a rolling cushioned mechanics seat/stool. The wheels are large enough that it rolls right over the cracks between the boards. On the lowest setting, I can paint it on in comfort.
A floor sander wouldn't get the rounded edges of the planks. If this covering lasts 10 years or more (which the last one did) it'll be the last time I will have to do it. ![]() I'll only have 10-12 hrs into the whole job when done. Not that big of a deal for me.
