^^^ Yes he did.

The above video about his life is interesting because he got started in a kind of 'Forrest Gump' way.
Right place at the right time.

Pretty sure he was a Porsche owner (997). I had to give a customer who lived close to our dealership a ride to his home in Arlington, Va one night and when I got back the service advisor told me he was an astronaut. Pretty sure it was him.

The Apollo command module had the very first user programmable computer. They could punch in various commands. One the astronauts on 13, maybe Lovell himself hit the wrong command, and it reset the computer to think it was on the launch pad, ready to launch. So they had no computer to calculate the course o when to fire the thrusters. The window to hit the atmosphere was very tiny. Too steep, and the burn up, too shallow and the bounce off the atmosphere, and go off into space.

Lovell whipped out a pencil, and a trident, and calculated the course, and and timing on the thruster firings. NASA on the ground with a team of smart folks calculated it, but they could not see the the position of the capsule. He calculated it before the NASA folks, and all agreed.

120” vernier that was used during the building of Apollo 11, and all the Apollo moon missions.
