Pre-germination of grass seeds.
Hi,
I saw a couple of videos of pre-germination of grass seeds a few months ago and decided to give it a try. You put a bunch of regular grass seed in a 5 gallon paint strainer bag, put it in a bucket of water, weigh it down, change the water twice a day and after 5 days, it is supposed to sprout and then you plant it. Benefit is supposed to be it starts growing right away with less chance of blowing away or getting eaten by birds etc. So, I decided to try it and after 6 days in the water, I saw no sprouting and figured I did something wrong, but spread them on bare spots in my yard and spread new seeds too. Well, two days later, I have grass growing, so it worked! Unfortunately we had a hard driving rain the day after, so some of the seeds washed away. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755091391.jpg |
It works. One day in the water though, and then dunk it once or twice a day for 5-6 days til sprouting. The hard part is spreading it. Peat doesn't mix well. Milorganite is supposedly the go to but its pricy.
Did work for me though. |

Yes, it was a clumping mess, but not terrible. |
