Funny (as usual) we all recommend what we have.

If you’re buying a good grill, it’s not like you replace it every few years. This is the only nice one I’ve ever had, previously we had cheapo ones that SUCKED.

We moved to a Blackstone and a smoker. Can do everything on the Blackstone that I used to do on the grill, plus some. But we use the smoker more than anything.

We use pellet smoker also, no more propane grill. Ours has a plate over the 'burning chamber' that I can slide to the side and get a flame to sear.

Thanks for the input.
It does sound, like usual, you get what you pay for.
I will likely move away from Weber only because I want a true sear station.
I also have a blackstone griddle, which gets used as much as the grill.
Will be visiting dealers in the next week or so.
thanks again

It's much harder to recommend something you don't have

Webers are crap.
There I said it. They turned into chinesium.

I spent more annually on mine than a $250 grill from HD.

I buy one of those every couple of years now.
5 or 6 15k burners get hot enough to sear and I have zero regrets when I replace it.

I’ve been grilling contactless lately. No grill marks. Using skewers like this. Cleanup is nonexistent. Tandoori chicken is a tough scrub afterwards.

I showed my wife, she’s the cook in our family. She will likely steal your idea.SmileWavy

I guess I'm the odd man out, I absolutely hate my Weber Genesis. Not a single thing i like about it.

Loved my Members Mark 6 burner I had from Sam's for 15yrs. That grill was awesome.
Finally settled on a Bullet for my outdoor kitchen.
The Duncane I had, I gave to my daughter last year. Another excellent grill.

I'm not getting where you're coming up with the idea that Weber doesn't offer a true sear station?
Mine is at least 15 years old and has a sear station as I pointed out in my first reply. Do they not do that on their top of the line grill anymore? I think the Genesis model comes with a sear burner too.

What do others here view as a "sear station"? I know some grills have an IR burner as the sear station. Mine, as I mentioned earlier, has three burners concentrated in the center of the gill with two burners being adjustable and the third being an on off burner.

maybe he wants one of those dedicated ceramic super ass hot burners?

It's smaller...fits 2 steaks max...but it's propane infrared.

The heating pad is on the top and a minute after it's lit you can't get your hand near the grilling portion. A steak takes only a few minutes...it's super fast.
No flare ups because the drippings don't drop on the heat.

Is this the same as the Caveman as to function? 1500F is toasty. I can't see reference to propane. Has to be. Yes, I see propane in the link description.

The bigger one would be way cool for pizzas as well.

^^^ Yes, the first link is exactly like mine....just a different name cut into the top.
Yep...it is propane. I'm still looking for a splitter connection for my tank so that I don't have to switch the lines.
In the pic they show food in the bottom drip pan. I might have to try that. I never thought of it.

The black hose in my pic is the propane line....and the controls are on the top back end.

All BBQ's at big box stores are crap. Buy from a dealer.

The sale price in the link for the smaller one is more than I paid for it at Menards.
I'm almost certain I paid $119 for mine...but it was a couple years back.

I want an actual IR sear station- not just a little hotter central portion of the grill.
I presently use a blowtorch. I want over 1200 degrees to really sear.

Jumpin Jesus on a pogo stick! Ya gonna make knives with it as a side hobby? :D

Honestly, I've never checked temps over the sear zone on my grill. Next time I fire it up, I'll have to see what it will do.

stevej37 08-20-2025 02:12 PM

^^^ The Cave Man I showed above is 1500F

It sucks propane like a 4 barrel carb. :D

onewhippedpuppy 08-20-2025 02:24 PM

I don’t think that’s searing, more like tempering.:D

Funny you mentioned knives. I just got 6 kitchen knifes back from my knife sharpening guy. Unbelievable what a sharp knife will do.
