So - dogs again

We said never again, but - again.

This is Ellie. Cute, smart, full of energy and real clown.

This is Jasmine. World traveler, shy, smart.

After the last two attempts to have a dog both ended in disaster, we said we were done. We got rid of all of our dog paraphernalia, and I was enjoying the freedom of having fewer responsibilities. Vicki was happy for about a month before she started pining for a puppy again.
She had a Springer Spaniel in the past that was a good dog, so we went to the Springer Spaniel Rescue people to see what was available. They didn't have a dog, but one of the members had a puppy to sell. She was 14 weeks old, and had lived in the house with the family of five her whole life, so she is well socialized. They called her Ellie because she has an L shaped patch of white fur on her back, and we kept the name.

As soon as we got Ellie we started looking for a companion for her. We think one of the problems with the other dogs was that they were lonely. I didn't really want a dog, so I didn't spend much time with them. They needed a canine companion.

A few days after we got Ellie, the rescue got an 8-month-old Springer mix. She was born in a shelter in Kavala, Greece. I don't know why or how, but when she was six months old she was shipped to Detroit and almost immediately ended up in Springer Rescue. Her name was, and still is, Jasmine.
I wasn't thrilled about having dogs again. It's been 3 years since Madison died, and I thought I could never let another dog into my heart. But Ellie has attached herself to me so irresistibly that, well, I guess I have a dog again.
The best part is, Vicki is happy. "Now we have a family again."

GREECE?! wow..she is adorable.

my wife and I call Hank "last dog". I am where you were. I'll see if it sticks. but hank is still younger and I jog with him daily so his health is fantastic.

last dog...yup!!!

She kind of looks Greek. Congrats on trying dogs again. Hopefully these will work out well. My youngest dog (2 years old) should live until I'm about 80, so I think about that. My others are 10, 13, and 13. Hopefully I'll be home full time by the time she's my only dog, otherwise I'll get her a companion. Dogs are one of the best things about this world.

Congratulations on jumping back in with eight feet. An extrovert and an introvert. They will steal your heart.

Good looking pups!

I hope it works out for you and your pups, Patrick.

Thanks for giving these girls a home and the love and comfort they deserve!

Both my two Blue Heelers were female and they got on very well. Didn't hurt that they knew their place in the pack order!

I'm thinking Ellie will be the Alpha there (?)

I'm shocked I tells ya :)!

Awesome new chapter .... new dawghouse too :D

Congrats to you and Vicki .... nicely done!

Young pups need another dog or three. To work off excess energy. And be a part of the pack.

That was the mistake I once made for my pup now gone.

And still regret.

I always wanted two dogs, so they could keep each other company while I was away at work. Turns out you need three, so when one dies, the other one still has a friend. Sometimes you get a fourth, when one isn't liked by the other two. The fifth? Well, there's something wrong with you.

LOL .... ya can't blame my issues on five dogs!

I started asking about GSDs yesterday.... just a casual conversation tho' :D

Negative. You start building a covered dog sled with wheels and a water feeder

Are these city dogs or country dogs????

JackDidley 09-05-2025 04:56 PM

I am jealous.

Beautiful pups! I think you chose well!

Congratulations.. beautiful dogs. When I retired my Border collie and I became one. We would take hike in the woods every morning. She was with while doing my chores. She was always looking at me wanting a new adventure. I couldn’t believe how hurt I was when we had to put her down. Dogs are truly a gift and I will always give one a good home.

GSD's are amazing dogs , very smart and loyal . One word of caution - they are called German shedders for a reason !!!!! Our GSD mix is a shedding machine . We brush Luke several times a week . A replacement dogs worth of hair comes off each brushing ! Other than that great dogs . Would be a good companion to you and your lab .

No kidding! We had a white GSD growing up. When she was blowing her coat it came out in chunks!

Look at those eyes...

I've had 7 or so dogs in my life. All different breeds...but the one liver/white Springer Spaniel named Bristol was by far my favorite.
Smart dogs and very loyal to their owner. Their faces show their emotions easily.
