Picked up a nine piece steak nuggets for lunch today.

Your post caused me to drive across town to Arby's. I got the steak bites and the ruben - both were delicious. My cat liked the steak bites too (glad I got the 9 piece).

Reading the rest of this thread, I will try the fish sandwich at lunch. We have an Arby's about 1/2 mile from work :)

^^^ I've eaten both...and I can assure you that my nine piece steak nuggets was not raccoon.

Raccoon has a much more delicate taste.:)

How does it compare to Chicken Of The Tree?

I was only 12 or so when I had raccoon...I remember that it was oily, and gamey tasting.
I only took one bite...that was enough. :D

Your Arby's may be diff...but ours doesn't carry the Fish Sandwich from late summer to early spring. I don't know why.

When they do offer it...they have two choices. One is the original crispy with lettuce and tartar. The other has a slice of cheese and other differences.

The Original Crispy is better...IMO (Cheese doesn't go good with fried fish)

The BIG question is: Did you order the Potato Cakes?

You may get a kick out of this. Growing up in Oak Ridge, we thought it was great when we went to Knoxville and were able to eat at Arby's since OR didn't have one. It was a big deal. You prob know where I'm referring to: Kingston Pike at the bottom of Bearden Hill.

My other favorite was in Pigeon Forge (which I would never go to now a days). I distinctly recall seeing them actually carve meat back in the day. Times have changed.

I remember the slicers at Arbys - first time I had one was 1976

I want to try them for fun. There is an arbys near work will hit them up this week. Just for curiosity searched the nutritional info for 5 piece. Fat/protein ratio is quite a bit worse than I would hope for.

Calories: 340
Fat: 27g
Carbohydrates: 5g
Protein: 17g
Sodium: 670mg

Tried them based on this thread. To me, they are just chunks of roast beef with some smoke flavor added.

Would be interesting if they deep fried the chunks like a fondue!

What sauce did you pick? I had the bbq...but if I ever get it again I'll try a diff sauce.

Google tells me this....
"Arby's steak bites are made from 100% USDA Choice sirloin steak that is cut into bite-sized pieces, seasoned with garlic and pepper, and then seared and smoked."

WOW...

As a young lad I can remember Dad always stopped at that Arby's for a sack-full of Beef N Cheddars as we were heading into UT for football games. As memory serves, we preloaded the car with a cooler full of canned drinks and a couple bags of chips to control costs. SmileWavy

Once a college student of my own, the tailgating transitoned towards alcohol and better food. :D

Berry

But it was the texture of roast beef and not steak. Almost like pulled pork texture.

^^^ I was surprised how tender they were....was expecting some serious chewing needed.
The taste was not like a good ribeye....but not bad either.

I wouldn't go there again just for the steak nuggets.

Second time through for the two for $7 roast beef gyro yesterday has me feeling the same.

The Chipotle chicken wrap - two for four - was much better overall and you did not need to be famished to have those.

Here is a pic of the gyro next to my calipers and Z block - with a side of tazeekee (sp?) sauce. Hefty.

This thread forced me to go to Arbys and try the steak nuggets yesterday.... Not too good in my opinion. They were not a proper steak texture and basically just tasted like liquid smoke. Definitely not worth the $6.50 for 5 little chunks of mystery meat.
