Constant log-in required on this site:

Not sure what I accidentally did in my settings but I'm having to log-in every time I visit a thread and return to the thread list, etc...

I'm thinking that I did something to prevent cookies, I have a MacBook and cannot figure it out. Help! Thanks.

I find that happening a lot more often on all websites that require sign-in.

My email app, banking sites, travel sites, all which used to auto sign-in with cookies....are requiring email or text verification most every time. It's a pain.

At home I log in automatically, but after a day or so not. At work I have to log in every time. Sucks, especially since it get taken to the main forum page and to scroll down most of the way down to click on Off Topic.

other than watching for a bounce from SSL to non-SSL or vice versa, no issues for me on a new iphone or my linux machines. check browser settings and any "privacy" extensions, software, etc.

My ipad also. Does not stay in desktop mode.

I have found clearing cookies fixes it when I don't stay logged in. (macbook & ipad)

It's funny, my now 10+ year old Mac on my desk stays logged in forever on everything unless I log out or delete cookies. My brand new Google phone requires that I log back in every day the first time I try to access this site.

Trouble with that is you lose your passwords too.

Unless you're gonna post, why bother logging in? I know read posts are tracked when logged in, but that's not hard to track these days.

I'm having to sign in every time I visit here from my desktop. This used to not be required - it's a pain!

"Unless you're gonna post, why bother logging in?" Aside from not seeing the annoying little popup ads, postings, and indicators that there are private messages, I don't see any necessity to log in every day, So many sites are now requiring additional log in 'credentials' and cell phone authentication it's tiring. Aside form finance and banking, what's the big issue. really ?

All good reasons for logging in. Not seeing posts from people on your 'ignore' list is another.

FWIW, I'm not being required to log in here when I'm on my desktop, tablet, or my phone.

Bots. Not the good kind. Forum owners are having to pay for bandwidth while AI related bots are combing. When the numbers are in the thousands it costs.

This is what I am told. I am not an IT guy.

Edit: here's the AI blurb,
"Sites are requiring more frequent logins primarily to enhance security against unauthorized access and to mitigate risks from automated bot traffic. Enhanced security measures include shorter session lifespans, stricter cookie policies, and bot detection mechanisms, which often result in users being prompted to re-authenticate more regularly."

It seems very sporadic , no real pattern I can detect . I can go days without having to log in and then there are days I have to log in several times . And it's just as random on my tablet and cellphone .
