Yo Vin......keep in mind the procedure I mention upstream, should you run into this injury again with any of your ACD's. Typically they are not large enough a breed to preclude them from this procedure. You just have to find a surgeon who can do it. I got real lucky here!

Thanks Baz, i think our vet had mentioned that one, but for some reason she wasn't a candidate for it. I think because of her size or the injury?

.

Went to 2nd vet this morning , x-rays confirmed a torn CCL . Everything else looks good like hips/spine and heart/lungs . This vet said she barely heard a heart murmur so it's not an issue at this time .

So Luke has surgery a week from today . Stays overnight and we pick him up Saturday afternoon . He is zoned out at the moment , it was a busy morning for him .

Any of you guys used something like this after your dogs leg surgery ? This is just one brand there are many others . I am thinking after surgery this would not only help support the leg that had surgery but also the other leg so he doesn't tear that legs CCL . Any feedback on this ?

Had two dogs that had ACL surgery. $3k a leg. Four back legs done. Do the math.. Ortho vet surgeon, all he does. Fairly quick recovery for both dogs.

rfuerst911sc 11-28-2025 03:17 PM

^^^ yep the estimate is 3k , that doesn't include today's visit which was $570.00 . Ouch . But he's my buddy and worth it . I just wanted to do whatever I can to stop it from happening on the other leg . He won't be chasing tennis balls in the backyard anymore I know that .

Chances are the other leg will have to get done as well. When the dog favors the good leg, it stresses the acl and bingo! In a short period of time the good leg starts to limp along. Ask me how I know. Hope it doesn’t happen to your dog, but don’t be surprised if it does.

That's why I am thinking about the dual leg braces .

Hoping things work out for you and the pup. Vets can work miracles these days.

Thank you . Friday will be a nervous day for sure waiting to hear the surgery went well and he has woken up .

Moka's tennis ball career ended in her prime a few years ago ... no ACL tear tho'.

Keeping her "restrained" and giving it months to heal .... hard to do... Labs :D.

Good luck!

Our puppy Ellie was spayed last week. Everything went well and they sent her home with trazidone to keep her calm while the incision heals. She is a normally a maniac, but the trazidone is helping. Hope your vet gives you something to help keep him calm while he heals.

So there’s multiple types of ccl surgeries for dogs (as so with acl and humans). Most common are the Lateral Suture and TPLO. The TPLO being the bee’s knees and usually double the cost of the suture route.

Dropped Luke off at the vet at 7:30 this morning , he was definitely confused what was going on . He wasn't impressed with no breakfast either.

Surgery is some time today and we pick him up tomorrow afternoon . Will be nervous until we get " the call " .

rfuerst911sc 12-05-2025 10:40 AM

Received the call from the vet around 10:30 , the surgery went well and Luke was recovering . She found a little bit of arthritis so that was cleaned up also .

Man the house is different without him . Luke is definitely part of the family . I am looking forward to picking Luke up tomorrow .

KFC911 12-05-2025 11:14 AM

^^^ I kept waiting for an update ....yay :)!

Luke is gonna be a happy pup tomorrow ....good luck with restraining his joy!

rfuerst911sc 12-05-2025 11:29 AM

^^^ thanks . Yeah restraining him will be a challenge . He is almost 6 but going on puppy 🐶 . We bought a large crate yesterday from a thrift store . So one in the living room the other in our bedroom .

Luke doesn't sleep in a crate , so last night we put him in . No crying or whimpering he just zoned out . As long as he is near us he's a big baby . Hoping the recovery is uneventful .

rfuerst911sc 12-06-2025 09:08 AM

We are home and all went well . Vet bill was 200 dollars less than quoted . He's happy to be home but not happy with inflatable collar .
