Black Friday is Maintenance Day (for me)
Started with just cleaning the deck and sharpening the blades. Then changed the motor oil and filter. Now, draining the hydro transmission and the filters for it. The oil and filters ran a little over a hundred for the five qts and two filters for the tranny. First time I've flushed the tranny since I bought the tractor new. (it's 25 years old now)
Wed. I changed the oil in the Honda engine on the Trac-Vac. (behind the JD)

Sounds like good way to spend the day. But isn't every day BF for you as you are retired? I have a retired friend that says every day is Saturday. That's somewhat true for me but I can't make a lot of noise on Sunday. Or choose not to unlike some neighbors.

^^^ It is...but with this heavy snow yesterday, I want to get this project done to make room for the snowblower for the winter.
I ran into a roadblock just now. The new tranny filter is too big...won't fit. Called the dealer and they said my model JD came with two different types of Case transmissions. Of course, with a 50/50 chance, I got the wrong one. So it's off to the JD dealer before they close.

Got to the JD dealer and the parts guy was stumped. I brought my used tranny filter in and he could only find the same one that I couldn't get to fit in.
He wanted the tag number off the case, so I went home and called him with the number. Come to find out, my tranny is for a 345 and my tractor is a 335....he has those. Grrr...now I have to go back and get it tomorrow. The dealer is 25 miles from me.

That is one clean garage, and that tractor looks brand new!

^^^ Thanks....the tractor is 25 years old. I traded in a 317 for it when I bought it new.

Do do it on Black Friday so you can spend 60% less time on it?

^^^ It's going to turn a one morning job into a two day job by the time I get the right filter.
The worst part of it is I asked the parts guy before I left....seeing that this one came out of my JD, there must be another box in the back for that tractor? He just answered "no". Then when I call back from home...he has a box of them for the 345.....Magic???

I'd love to have a nice clean mower and spotless garage ... but not at the expense of a snowy hell!

The turtles have their own little spa in the basement....heat, clean water, and all they can eat shrimp.
![]() I have a 'Hot Dawg' in the garage to keep it a nice temp for projects like today. .

The filter is in and the fluid is going in.
First pic is the filter that they said would fit and the filter that came out. Second pic is the correct one that I just picked up this morning. $57 for the correct one. ![]()

Had to use the plastic hose with one end that screws onto a gal jug to fill it.
A funnel wouldn't fit. Took 5 qts. Ran it back and forth checked the level. Sharpened blades and will re-attach the deck and park it in my tool building for the winter.

While waiting last night when the parts guy was searching....I had time to take a good look at this one. Might see what kind of trade-in they will give me....it's a 590 with either a 48 or 54 deck.
