Mine updated to ios 26.1 about 6 days in. I had to go into settings and turn off some stuff. I am getting used to it but I'd be happy with an android that is this small.

Been an Apple guy for 15 years or so. An iphone typically lasts me 5 years and then I trade it for a new one for around $200. Integration with laptop and ipad is seamless and they just work. I am not a huge fan of the way either Apple or Google run their company but you gotta pic one or switch to a prepaid burner phone right?

If you like to do a lot of customization they say the Google is better. I just want it to work and the iphone does.

Funny you mention you like the interface of the android. That's the main reason people like apple over android is because the user interface is deemed so much better on the iPhone. I've tried both and the iPhone is just leaps and bounds better for me. I like the interconnectivity between all the apple products as mentioned earlier. I can write a note/text, etc on my iPad and put it down and it will be waiting on my iPhone when I pick it up later. And it's funny because we were discussing this the other day with some friends and if you ask someone with an Android to show me a pic or send a text or what have you, it always takes them a lot longer to get to the specific place on their phone that it does someone with an iPhone. I do understand the OS of a droid is better but Apple definetly has the user experience nailed.

The opposite is my experience. Likely due to the fact that I dont have an Ipad or Mac computer. With android I just bluetooth from the phone to the laptop or the laptop to the phone. The Iphone ust does not like to bluetooth with my linux . I know its not instant like with all Apple stuff but it is pretty quick.

Out of curiosity, why the animosity towards apple, but not google?

Not a huge fan of Google either.

Always disliked Apple's business model/ exclusivity.

It may not seem like a legit reason but, the total cult following has always been off putting and disturbing to me. It's an electronic device for Christ's sake. I've seen people literally get into fights over it.

Back in my day guys got into arguments over which car/ truck was better. Now dudes argue over cell phones...

Androids for me. I had multiple Motorola phone over the years... This go around I got a Pixel 9 Pro. Works good... no complaints.

I kind of think a lot of the preference stems from what computer you used most. I was in accounting/finance and therefore a PC user at work. The marketing and design folks were the Apple users. I am an android user, but have thought about an Iphone. They are quicker to adopt changes to the apps I rely on as a type 1 diabetic. The android manufacturers, because there are several, take longer to adopt and release updates. I have received emails from my insulin pump manufacturer to make sure auto updates are not enabled on my phone due to this issue. This stuff keeps me alive, so I pay attention to their instructions.

Never had anything but iPhones as far back is I remember. Of course I had a cell phone (as they were called) before the introduction of the iPhone but I don't know what it was.

AFA iPhones and the OS compared to the MacBook I just bought, I don't see any similarities in basic functions. IOW, having an iPhone for years did not help me one iota with the MB. iPhone keypad is straight forward with no use of Mac knowledge needed to operate. The enter button on the iPhone does say "return" if that is significant. It's not to me as it's in the same position. I really can't compare the 2 phones side by side since I've never had a true Android.

I will say that keypad gestures are easier to master on the iPhone as opposed to the MacBook. I doubt I will ever have the dexterity for the full function of the MB with old hands that suffered manual labor for all my life. About as dainty as I can get is tying a shoelace.

Anyone running a minimalist phone?

My last flip had linux-based https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KaiOS. Had a few simple games and even a internet browser which was highly impractical. Loved it. Battery would last more than a week with limited use.

Another linux phone is https://pine64.org/devices/pinephone_pro/

For more privacy there is also https://abovephone.com/#webinar-signup or https://mark37.com/?mtm_campaign=Gab or https://puri.sm/products/librem-5/

Even the flip phones come with wifi and GPS standard. Sunbeam flips are the only ones that advertise a modular aspect for different features; however, they are simply turned off at the software (and cost $350+). I like the concept of the mudita but coming out of Poland makes me suspicious. https://mudita.com/products/phones/mudita-kompakt/

The Librem 5 from purism (the last product link) is very interesting. Kill switches, removable battery, and the liberty version is MADE IN AMERICA...

Android, they are generally cheaper, and I consider a phone a bit of a commodity at this point.

After many years of buying cheapo computers tablets and the like, I bought my daughter a real life bonified, legit, non-used Ipad. I will say the hardware is nice.

Get a Google Pixel... its just Android... no manufacturer bloat, just Android..

Granted I have only owned phones with Android OS... Motorola, Samsung.. ..

Even Oneplus puts a skin on the OS.. ...

Swappa has them used for not crazy prices..

It's interesting that you don't care for the interface. I switched from Android to Apple about four years ago. The only thing I really didn't like was the fact that all the apps I had didn't switch over. I thought the way things worked was pretty similar.

I am getting used to it. Give me a couple weeks and it will seem normal to me. It really took me a while to figure out the settings I want.

I dont see the need for a phone to be so big. I hate carrying a big phone so I ended up with an Iphone 13 mini. They dont make this phone any more so I had to find a used one. At least that is how it was listed but it has 100% battery life, latest OS and looks new. Very small. Anyway I have had it 2 weeks and sort of hate the user interface. I am getting used to it but still prefer android.

Samsung Z Flip. They fold to quite small.
