Congratulations on being over that daily dose of pain!
I'm no doubt headed that way, pain is becoming more daily in my left hip, it's never been the same since a second "learning to snow ski" trip up to Stevens Pass with my big brother when I was 17. Rented gear and a hard turn into ungroomed snow with a bit of speed and down I went, left ski didn't pop off but certainly should have, unknowingly tore some rotator ligaments. Tried another run and found it excruciating, dropped off the gear and waited by the car for my brother. By the time he got there I could just barely walk. It healed more or less, Doc back then was a rare breed, Osteopath, General Practitioner, and surgeon with his own private practice. His advise: Don't do that to that hip again! Otherwise I'll have to go in and fix it. I stopped skiing. I do 3 miles or more 3X a week, more on vacation. Pain level varies from enough to slow waay down to nonexistent. Sometimes during the walk its fine, then aches then is fine again. It does have better days then others, I did a few 10 mile days and a local hike of about 2500' and 3 miles this year without too much issue so I keep putting off having any in depth imaging other than knowing there's at least a bone spur that's been noted. It would be great to be pain free, there at least :-) |
Skip, one of the dumbest things I ever did was put off the hip replacement. Every single step was OUCH for me. Even in bed, it hurt in most positions.
A few weeks of recovery, and you will wonder why you waited. A month or so later you will feel fine. My doc told me to wait until the scar turned white with no hit of redness, than do normal activities. His list of never do: Ski, either water or snow, and that included snowboarding or skateboarding. And don;t take a really large step up wit that leg first. Like up into a pickup bed, or the first step up into a tractor or heavy equipment. When I get into the back of my El Camino, I just use my other leg first. Same for coming down. |

It would be great if I could get my left hip and knee done at the same time, the Knee has bone spurs in it. I had my left shoulder de-spured years ago and it's been great! I should have gotten the extended warranty on my left side joints! |
