Waiting on Fedex this morning.

Was in Walmart Wed looking at their Vizio 65 inch QLED HDR Smart tv's. Told the sales lady I would need to come back to buy one with a pickup instead of my Civic to haul it.

She said "Just buy it online and they will deliver it for no charge". Went home and looked....sure enough, free delivery on big screen tv's. (I think it's a BF sale)
Same final price as if bought in the store.

Tracking says 10:30 delivery today.

We have the same one, except I schlepped it home. You’ll really like it. Good choice. Sound quality is decent also. Rarely turn on the sound bar.

Nice!

A related Walmart thing that pisses me off, sometimes they will have online only prices on in store items. So you could be in the store, looking at the item right in front of you, and they won’t give you that price. Instead you have to stand there looking at the item, pull your phone out and buy said item online while standing in the store, wait an hour until someone comes and grabs the item and takes it up front, and then go pick it up from the online pickup section of the store. Last time I went to Best Buy instead, just for spite.

It's replacing a nine year old 65" Vizio D65u-D2

The screen started getting slighty darker in one lower quadrant....has to be failed led backlight strips.
A replacement kit is available online for $34. I watched a youtube video detailing the fix with the kit....not for me.

Having lasted 9 years...I figure it's time. Also, I found my receipt for it...$1163.00
New one is a third of that.

Last few times I bought TV's, Sam's club, Best Buy, I purchased online for store pickup. Park, they bring it to my vehicle, easy-peasy. Black Friday Sam's TV even had a 15% Rakuten cash back since I ordered online.

I do curbside pickups and home deliveries whenever possible. Sometimes Home depot is free, or $6 delivery, same as gas for the car, and I don't have to wait for an employee to find what I want or unload it from an upper warehouse shelf.

Crazy how cheap TVs are. In the 70s I think I paid $300 for my first color portable tv.

I have an '02 Silverado 1500 with full length (8') bed w/bedliner I could use for hauling large items but for a flat screen would probably elect to use my '97 Volvo 850 wagon w/5 speed.

Here I'm at HD with it picking up some shelving units.......

Same here, as I recall $250ish for A 13" color tube tv in the mid 70's. Most I paid was $3000 for a 30" tube TV in the early 90's. Few years later I thought $1400 for a 42" plasma from a wholesale club was cheap. Then a few $1000 projectors....

Black Friday: $280 for a 60" 4k Roku smart tv. Should have also picked up one of the $100 40" smart tvs.

I've since added a trailer hitch so can use my motorcycle trailer to haul stuff!

paid 5400 for a 43" plasma in 2003 and 3500 for a 63" in 2007.
saw a 55" LED for $199 and a 65" for $349 on a BF sale.
quite the difference.

Disconnected the old one and set it aside....not sure what to do with it. Trash service said no.
When I was looking at the specs of the new one coming...I noticed a weight of 39lbs for the total weight.
I used my bathroom scale to weigh the old one because it felt heavier than that.
It weighed 52lbs.

They must have found some way to save money on the new ones.

I went all out and got the big 18" If I remember right. :D
My 55" smart TV was $300 out the door at Best buy 3 years ago. Saw a 75" at Walmart the other day for less than $500. My living room is not big enough for a 75" but I was tempted.

I just replaced our 18 yr old Sony's, 42" & 52", with new 55" and 65" Sony Bravia 7 miniLED QLED sets. I found the receipt for the 52" that my daughter had bought for me, $2400 in '08.
Had to pay $100 to have the old sets hauled away but it was worth it not to have the hassle of disposing of them. The 52" was a two person lift job.
I'm enjoying the heck out of the new 65", the picture is really nice. My wife is slowly coming around to liking her new set. She claims I didn't listen to her when she said she didn't want a bigger one than the old one. I didn't listen to her way back then either since she wanted nothing bigger than 40". Her new one is only a few inches overall bigger as it doesn't have the 2" bezel around the picture like the old one.
All in I think we're at @$3100 for everything, including a new receiver for my HT in the living room. My old Denon wouldn't pass anything above 1080P thru on video so it wasn't going to work with the 65" set.

stevej37 12-05-2025 07:27 AM

^^^ Yes, I had to upgrade my Sony Amp to another newer one that would pass 4K when I bought my last Vizio. With ARC, it makes the hook-up for a new tv just a matter of one cable.

rattlsnak 12-05-2025 07:36 AM

The 90" is on sale at costco for $999.. That's nuts!

stevej37 12-05-2025 07:37 AM

"Vizio TVs are not made in the U.S., but are designed in California and manufactured primarily in Mexico, China, and Vietnam under agreements with third-party assembly partners. The company has also used manufacturing facilities in Taiwan and Thailand."

Over Thanksgiving my son's big 85" TV decided to take a hike. Watching on his projector screen (120") was a joke since the room during the day is so bright.
He looked online before going on a business trip this week, and found a 98" on sale at Costco. It was $1299 once he found it at the store, which was @$100 or less than the online price he'd seen.
