Mfi shop ?
 

Can anyone recommend a shop near Michigan that can install my rebuilt MFI pump and dial it in? So many places claim to know what they are doing, but simply don't? Willing to travel-just don't want to go all the way out to the west coast. Thanks.

There is a guy named John Truman near Ashtabula, OH. He's in his 80's but has hired a young protoge.

My dentist pal has the details and I will gladly forward to you tomorrow if interested.

It may be as simple as googling but you may want my pal to assist for an introduction.

If it was rebuilt by one of a very few that do the job right, it was set up on the bench for your motor and should be plug and play. It's real easy to get lost attempting to tune one. And, if the motor isn't healthy, there is nothing you can do to make it any better.

If you can line up dots to install the belt, it's a breeze. Well, you do have to know fuel and oil fittings, etc. I hope you had the injectors serviced as well.

BTW, the rebuilder should have asked what exhaust you are using. If not, that's not a good sign.

Now, if the throttle bodies are all out of adjustment then I take back my statement. The whole job setting everything up from scratch is not easy. I hassled with MFI on a '71S for the few years that I had it. The TB's were a bit loose and the ball end joints on the linkage were far from new. These little things add up fast.

As Zeke indicates, reinstalling the pump is a simple bolt it back on operation. That is if it was refurbished to stock specs and is being reinstalled on a stock motor... Tell us more...

Pump was just rebuilt by MFI Werks in Oregon. I currently don't have good use of my hands or the experience with MFI and would prefer to farm it out or I can wait until spring. ?

Understood. While this really is a bolt on affair, access with the engine in the car is quite challenging. I struggle with my now arthritic hands and I've done this more times than I can remember. I've come up with a number of tricks and homemade tools over the years that help a bit, and there really is nothing complicated about any of this, so it really is just about access. Even with full use of our hands it's a bit of a bear. So, yeah, if your hands are giving you trouble, and you have not done this before, it's best to farm it out. It's frustrating enough on our best day.

You should check with Jeff Jones at Automotive Techniques in Novi, MI. He has done many projects for me over the years (engine rebuilds, etc.) and is really good/knowledgeable. 248-615-8964

I can say that Mark Jung certainly was the right person to send the pump to so you're off to a great start.

I will echo Jeff Higgins remarks. You are either rather capable or you find someone that can properly do this. You might cross post this in the Tech forum where another group of members will see it.

There are many members that disdain PPOT and I can't say I blame them.

Most difficult part of install is the drive belt. Blind and waaaayyyyy back of the engine. You need long skinny arms or the kind Stretch Armstrong had on the toy.
