911 S or Turbo S?

I know this will come down to personal taste but wondering what you guys opinion on this is..

I've decided that I'm going to buy a 911 in mid Jan time frame and am deciding between a 992.1 (2021-ish) 911 S or a 991.1 (2015-ish) 911 Turbo S. They are both in the same price range.
I do really like the look of the newer 991s and like the newer tech like Apple car Play, etc. and feel like the 991.1 is kind of of dated but it IS a bada$$ car as it's the pinnacle of the 911 tree. Thinking that the turbo has already hit it's max depreciation while the 911 S will certainly drop more in the next few years. I'm not planning on tracking them regularly, maybe once a year just the satisfy the urge and neither would be my daily driver. The Turbo is kind of a niche market (not much different than the GT cars) and usually sell fast and and still holds it's value whereas there are plenty of 991.2 911 S for sale. Io worry a little bit about the cost of the ceramic brakes on the Turbo and the Center Lock wheels can sometimes be a PITA.

So if you had a choice, which way would you go?

Take the Turbo S just for giggles and laughs. Yes, the center lock is a pain in the ass. I have a 991 S. Do install the IPD plenum they make the most benefit in turbo cars. It revs a bit smoother and fast enough that your butt dyno can feel. Don't affect smog.

have you driven them? Beside the handling what impressed me the most if the cer. brakes. Goddangit, my eye balls pops out when I get on the brakes hard. Handles mo better then all my other 911s. Feel a bit big, sadly, you know what keys I grab the most when I go out? The Cayman S. Its my daily beside the 4 runner.

The freaking speed is enough to not get the 992S.

Buy now, because I think in a few more years, the pricing will only go up like the 996 and 7s.

I am bias. I like all 911 turbos. have three including a 993.

Have you driven both? Honestly that should be step one. I haven’t owned anything newer than a 997 so I have no direct input, but will follow along with interest.

One more thing I must add, the 4 wheel steering in the turbo S. It works very well in fast corners and the thing turns like a short wheel base car. The turning diameter is better then my smaller Cayman

Sounds like a First World problem!! Congrats. I’d have to drive them both as well…it’s not just about performance numbers but also interior styling, overall experience, etc.

Personally, I think the 911 should be RWD. But, I wouldn't mind owning an AWD Turbo especially if it's mostly for public roads.

All great cars. For touring I prefer the Turbo. The suspension tuning and handling just feel great, and did I mention passing power? I do not appreciate the center lock and ceramics but if you are not regularly swapping wheels it doesn't matter much.

I just added a Sony infotainment w/Carplay and it looks factory, sounds better, and is a lot more intuitive to use than the Becker OEM for less than $1000.

Drive em and decide.

I hate my OEM head unit. Once the cars is turned on, it goes straight to radio. WHF is Porsche thinking? Is your Sony easy to use? I hate all the unnecessary crap on the touch screen. Plus, I think it sounds horrible same as my stock cayman unit. Anymore info on that? CAr play is sure nice.

You hardly feel the front wheels pulling unless the car is going 9/10th in a fast corner. I can corner so much faster and harder in mine but I really think its the rear wheel steering system. Oh yeah, the grip. There's so much grip.

I found the 996TT pretty boring honestly. Unless you are doing lots of highway driving, then the turbo is a great Grand Touring car.

I believe the turbo S is on PDK, is that a factor?

My goal is to only own manual 911’s.

Go to Crutchfield and select your car including the specific stereo (base or Bose). It will show lots of compatible options from Sony, Pioneer, Dual etc. Figure out what features you want and have a phone chat with the very knowledgeable reps.

They put together a Sony head compatible with my speakers and amp, all the adapter harnesses, dash bezel kit, and complete instructions to either DIY or find a local installer. Some of the best service I have seen in electronics fitment and the Sony is 10x more intuitive to use. Carplay gives you current Nav, all phone functions, and my 5000 song music library in a few clicks. I like it a lot.

The 992 S has plelnty of performance, looks nice and clean. The 991 Turbo has crazy straight line speed. But you have to be pleased with the look of the car...

Both are amazing cars.

Thanks all, I have driven them both and what I really want is a 991.2 Turbo! but those command @30k more than the 991.1 turbos and that's out of my price range. I suppose the main issue that I'm stuck on is that while I agree that the turbo is a more capable car, I just feel that that body style looks dated ( same generation as my 991.1 GT3 - sold that last spring) and that is a lot of money for a 10: year old car. The only issue with the 992 is it's not a turbo and I do like the looks much better.. so a more capable older car vs a better looking newer car.. Tough choice for sure.!

Historically speaking the Turbo models will retain their value better. But now that all 911s are technically turbos, I wonder if that trend will continue? As one of the range topping 911 models I suspect yes, but we shall see.
