Probably because they’re all computer designed now.

I agree with this, but only if guess two you also think like a computer, our average guess is 3-4 by far because we understand probalistic word structures..

Last Saturday, for the first time, I failed to get the word. It was one of those for which there are too many possible solutions, and I ran out of guesses. Damn!

My strategy is to start with AUDIO (because it has four vowels), and then try to find a word with an E or T in it. Do you have a strategy?

This is the one I failed at. The word was BATCH.
I got that one in 4 tries. I always start with SHARE. So it went:
SHARE
HATCH
PLUMB
BATCH

See what I did there? PLUMB used four possible first letters, P, L, B, and M. If none of those were yellow, then the word would have been WATCH.

Thanks, Charlie! That's a good tip.

Today's is tricky. So far, it's been solved in an average of 6.3 moves. I guess that means a lot of people failed. I got it in 5.

It's barely a word. There've been a couple lately that've been what I'd call dodgy.

I hesitated, but I couldn't think of anything else.

Agreed. Before I guessed it I thought, no way this is a real word, and sure enough that was it….

I got it, but Is that even a word? I had to look up a hint and I still threw a Hail Mary. It came down to, “what the hell, that’s all I can think of,” not even confident it would be accepted as a real word.
There was one a couple of weeks ago that I didn’t think was a word.

In addition to the Wordle and Cryptograms I solve one or two of these if I have time during the day. Sometimes the color block game can take me days. I used to do a fun game called "Two Dots" but as I worked up in the levels they rules and goals kept changing. I hate that. I hate it when I'm playing cards and every dealer has to change the wild card or the rules. "One-eyed jacks are wild if two fours have been thrown and the king with the axe is buried," is Bullcrap.

I have played like 10 times

Several years ago I got it in 1 try, shoulda bought a lottery ticket.

I actually posted on my facebook feed that I would make the wordle moist as a joke. The next day it was moist, which of course was my first guess. I wonder if pure coincidence.

"2" today. This is the second time since Patrick posted this thread that I've solved it in 2.

Satisfying!

"2" as in you solved it in the second row?
I've never gotten the answer in the first or second row. Ever.

I got today's in 2 as well. Lucky since I only had one letter from the first guess.

I've gotten it in 1 guess 8 times (but one of those has an * since I saw my daughter's grid and I know her first word)
I've gotten it in 2 guesses 53 times.

But I've played 980 games. Plenty of these kind of games that I'm lousy at, but Wordle just lands in my wheelhouse for some reason. I never start with the same word, and always try to win with each guess, as opposed to using the five spaces for letters I don't already have.

The game is edited by a live person, and she doesn't pick cute words based on holidays or seasons, etc. OOMPH was a big departure from her usual choices. Almost like she was sick that day.

8 times in 1 guess is crazy, it must be more statistically likely than I thought

It's been my observation, too, that if there is a choice of two words, and one of them is aggressive and one is benign, go for the benign one first. For example, IRATE or PLATE, I'll pick plate, and I'm usually right. Today's word was pretty aggressive, but I couldn't think of a second word so I went with it and got a nice hit of dopamine to start my day..

Lucked out and got today's in two.

Wordle in 3 today.

Have been doing the NYT hard Sudoku on my laptop lately. Much easier to do on the SudokuPad. Found a guy on YouTube (Rangst) that loads the puzzle on the more user friendly SudokuPad. I watch him fly through the solution after I have solved it. Good learning experience.
