Xfinity/Comcast subscribers

Noticed an email from them about their '5 year price guarantee'. My rate just went up another $20 and is getting high for what I use it for.

So....I called them this am and was told the 5 year thing is only a guarantee of them holding your rate....no contracts involved for remaining a subscriber.

She also said there are other incentives involved. I signed up and my rate dropped $50/month starting now. The package also includes their fastest internet speed and two free years of Peacock.

First time I've ever been happy that I called them. With many sporting events moving to Peacock...I'll take advantage of that.:)

Also, she offered one free year of an Xfinity Mobile line which I turned down.

Absolutely. Squeaky wheel. We name dropped the fiber company that is about the eat Comcast's lunch in my city and the price went way way down.

A930Rocket 01-10-2026 05:13 PM

I need to do this. I’m with Xfinity and pay $95 for internet only with so so speed.

stevej37 01-10-2026 05:20 PM

^^^ I have their 'Triple Play' service which includes tv, internet, and phone.
This last months bill went up to $295/month. After today's call, it will be $245/month.

I have looked into dropping the phone service....but they tell me that my bill will go up if I do because of the triple play discount.

^^^ I hope it works out...I will be interested in it.
I was an early owner of a 10ft fiberglass satellite dish in the 80's. After a few years, I switched it to a 10ft mesh dish. Then they started scrambling the channels and I had to have 'The Guy' stop out and switch the main chip every month or so....lol

It was fun while it lasted...all the prem channels for free and no commercials.

stevej37 01-11-2026 03:23 AM

It was $50 each time the chip guy would stop out and replace the main chip. Never knew his name, phone number or where he was from....a very shady business.:)
But every time HBO or others were scrambled....within a few days he was always there to swap the chip out.

Thanks. I need to call them and threaten to leave as well. The problem is they are the only real fast internet provider we have. The fiber companies advertise a ton but none are at the house. We were Verizon wireless and Century link for internet a few years ago. Going xfinity for internet and mobile saved us a ton for the first two years. Now, of course, prices have steadily risen.

stevej37 01-11-2026 09:38 AM

I should have also mentioned that I saw the phone number for Xfinity in the email that they sent. I think it's an added line for the '5 year price guarantee'.. what I did.

I reached a human within 2 minutes of placing the call...which is highly unusual.;)
And the lady who helped me was very friendly with hardly any accent.

Here's the number if needed.....800-934-6489

.

How about Internet via cellular (4G/5G). I think most of the big boys have it. We use T-mobile. Or Starlink?

We have no option for high speed internet except those options. We are lucky to be in a spot where we could probably use any of the big cell providers, but we're paying $50/mo for T-mobile, and are able to surf the 'Net or stream video without any issues. I work from home, and have been for ~5 years this way.

Good to hear about the Amazon satellite service because it will give me leverage at Frontier. That and 5G everywhere Frontier has to be thinking about customer retention. I will check out the Amazon deal when the go live. As a Prime I'm sure they will push it.

Lots of folks in the small towns in our area use Frontier. Last year, fiber was run to the road in front of our house for Frontier, but I don't think the rest of the infrastructure is in place for us to use it yet. On the facebook groups for our 2 local counties, folks are always complaining about Frontier Internet being down.

T Mobil is $50/month forever they say. Ive had it about 3 years with no price increase.

stevej37 01-11-2026 04:07 PM

^^^ Is that for internet service only?

JackDidley 01-11-2026 04:12 PM

Yes, internet only. I get Sling tv 9 months during the racing season, $45.99/month.

stevej37 01-11-2026 04:18 PM

I should have asked the gal at Xfinity what their internet only fee is. It would prob be more than $50, but I could see doing that someday, esp with all the streaming services.

Edit: I just googled it and Xfinity runs from $40 to $100/month depending on the speed wanted.

JackDidley 01-11-2026 04:24 PM

For the record the Sling tv interface sucks. Hard to navigate. I mostly use it for NHRA and NASCAR so I put up with it.
