It won't let me delete it, so here you have a thread that makes no sense. Not sure what is wrong around here?

I can't quite picture it Denis.

I think there's something wrong with the exposure.

Two questions we will never know the answers to, the mysterious photo that isn't and what exactly is wrong around here. It's a shame (on many levels) that Leonard Nimoy has left us, this could have been a good episode.

On a random note, Leonard Nimoy was a good friend of mine late in his life, what a great guy.

That's a good question. He was Jewish and definitely had a deep faith, (I just assumed), worldly people never impose their religion on others. He was an extraordinarily kind and thoughtful human being, so maybe that was associated with his upbringing but it was just who he was.

I don't remember the subject of cars ever coming up so I guess, maybe? When I knew him, (thinking it was in the very late '80s or early '90s), I was broke and not really doing much with cars myself so I was not driving anything that would have been a conversation starter. I finally started making some coin in about Y2K and bought a 911, that's when I joined Pelican!

I've met so many interesting people in my life, both famous and not, that I had actually not thought of Leonard for a long time until this thread sparked my memory. Crazy thing is, I never watched Star Trek as a kid unless it was on at a friend's house.I've never seen any of the ST films. Science fiction is just not my thing...never has been. So I was as far from a super fan as you could get with Nimoy but of course I realized that he and the series had a massive following.

He wrote a couple of books of poetry and gave me one inscribed. I'll try to find it and post a picture if I do. I'm going through a big house cleaning as I get old myself and it's buried here somewhere.

During the formation of the series, Nimoy worked with Roddenberry to create a unique identity of Spock. Here is the info I found years ago about "live long and prosper"

Quote:
The Vulcan greeting is based upon a blessing gesture used by the kohanim (koe-hah-NEEM) during the worship service. The kohanim are the genealogical descendants of the Jewish priests who served in the Jerusalem Temple. Modern Jews no longer have priests leading services as in ancient times, nor do we have animal sacrifices anymore. (Yes, people really do ask about that!) The sacrificial system ended with the destruction of the Temple by the Romans in the year 70. C.E. However, a remnant of the Temple service lives on in the “kohane blessing” ritual (duchenen in Yiddish) that is performed on certain holy days.

[Hebrew letter SHIN][hand and SHIN letter]The actual blessing is done with both arms held horizontally in front, at shoulder level, with hands touching, to form the Hebrew letter “shin.” This stands for the Hebrew word for “Shaddai”, meaning “Almighty [God].” Nimoy modified this gesture into one hand held upright, making it more like a salute.
So, technically, the Vulcan greeting is not the same thing as the ceremonial Jewish blessing. Still, the resemblance is close enough to evoke instant recognition among knowledgeable Jews.

During the synagogue service, the worshippers are not supposed to look at the kohanim while the blessing is being given. The reason for this is to focus our attention on the words of the prayer itself, rather than on the personalities of the kohanim. The kohanim are merely the channels, not the source, of the blessing, which comes from God. Unfortunately, all sorts of silly superstitions have arisen about this ritual, such as “Don’t look at the kohanim, or you’ll go blind!” and other nonsense. The real reason is simply to focus on receiving blessings directly from God, not from human beings.
