Head light Lamp for a Human
 

A headLamp - I need a good one, tired of junk.
One that is rechargeable, bright, no box on the back strap (they get in the way when underneath a vehicle).
If you have discovered a great one, please do not keep it a secret.

These are legit. I have an older one that takes 3 AAA rechargeable batteries but all of the new ones are USB rechargeable. Choose the style and intensity you need for your particular application.

Try to get something with a variety of light settings, and preferably no emergency blinkie.

I've used my light and motion bike light for working on the car. Waaaay too bright. 1500 lumens. It cast shadows and causes huge eye strain. You see what you are looking at, and nothing else. It's also more a spot light anyway.

Get a good low/med power flood to start with. Much more usable / versatile. Also, pass on the emergency flasher feature if possible. It's one more annoying thing to toggle through when under the car. you don't want disco lights.

I had a cheap one from amazon with all the useless features and flashing lights and bs. It was OK but I used it enough that I decided to get a decent one.

simple and works very well. I like it so far and have used it a bunch. The flashlight comes off and makes a pretty good stand alone mini light as well. Battery life isnt super long on the highest setting. maybe a half hour, but not sure. The medium setting is plenty bright and lasts plenty long

That Olight is good but I have three Zebra lights. Not sure aobut the new ones if they have a recharging port built into the light? Its used 18650 battery and needs a charger. I like that better anywey because it on high 99% of the time and battery life is goof for a little over an hour of continuous run. On mid or low lever, it can go for hours and hours. It can be had with flood, standard or spot. Do the natural (sun light), not bright white since its hard on the eyes, and flood. It lights up an entire area with very even hot spots for work. No need to see 1/4 mile away.

the floor specific light do not have the hot spot bouncing back into your eyes causing strain. At least not as much as the spot beam.

I have a zebralight. I think it's one that uses a single AA battery. I think i bought it because Look recommended it. It's a great little light, and the batteries last a while, but I wanted something rechargeable.

I have the smaller Olight headlight. I love it, it works great. It's got 4 brightness settings from barely there which is adequate if you're in a really dark area working close up to very bright. Obviously battery life depends upon which brightness setting you're on. The charging couldn't be easier (no port to fiddle with, just a magnet). I think it's supposed to have some level of water proofing.

It's a Chinese company, but they seem to make a good product. I haven't had to use the customer service, but I've seen reports that the customer service is good. I can't say for sure either way.

Steve, I like the rechargeable, 18650 Zebra light (flood). By wearing it, standing up fully, and looking down, this light will cast a 4-5' consistent diameter light tapering off at the edge. Great for working horrible for searching for the coyotes in the back yard. It is much brighter then the AA you have. I take the AA one, like yours, when I travel overseas due to the ease of getting cheap, simple AA batteries should I need it. This is Vash's tip. The only draw back to the 18650 rechargeable is that it take some time to charge, and a charger is needed. 20 bucks for the charger.

I bought a zebra light knock off from Olly - baba as an experiment. It is great. A little too heavy for lots of stuff but it sure puts out the light. I bet I have close to 10 headlamps floating all over the place. Love them! I range from cheap-0 (worthless! Harb Or Freight) to the knock off Zebra to some old school Petzl and then there are some more. All are great except HF.

Absolutely! A good headlight is so much more useful than a regular flashlight most of the time.

I’ve bought and tried several head lights over the years. It seems like I have to wear the right one for the job sometimes. Plus the olight in one more I can’t think of the name of.

I like them with simple press button and simple, to no fancy features (The fooking strobe. How many time have we use this?). One button to turn on and cycle through three modes. Firefly for reading inside the tent, medium for general use and turbo for working on the car during the day. Yeah, I am a dork. There are so many dang dark spots, even during the day. I use to think when I see my mechanic with those little Maglights, what you can't see the screw under the filter box? Now I am eating my words

Zebralight are known for their superior warm tint based on the selection of light instead of just white light. The natural sun light is a really nice tint I like. No eye strain.

They seem to come like Batman's utility belt.
With winches, strobes, spades, and crowbars.
After having owned several styles / versions I am getting picky?

I have several and I use them all the time. This Milwaukee is my favorite. I don’t like the rechargeable ones, the battery seems to die just when I need it most. Between the two sizes I probably have a dozen AA and AAA Enloop rechargeable batteries and a good charger/maintainer, so I’m never without a light.

I have bought several headlights and all of them have sucked for the most part.

I have a lot of these flashlights, they are 1000 lumens, extremely bright. A project I would like to do someday is to mount these on a headband with ratcheting swivels, one on each side of your head. A weighted/magnetized base holder would be nice too.

I really like these, and they're cheap. I've never timed them to see how long they last on high but they seem to have a good battery life. My favorite thing is the long press to turn them off. Some of the lights I have, I need to press the power button several times to turn them off. They also have a motion on feature but I don't use that.

My son bought the O light be neither of us really cared for it. It is very bright though.

I got a pair of these in Jan 2023, one was bad out of the box, they replaced it, for me they aren't so great. I would rate fair at best.

New idea. Using those 1000 lumen flashlights, the chargeable batteries are slipped into the headband to be non-intrusive and are wired to just the bulbs mounted on the sides or cyclops. Easy in and out attachment/wiring for the batteries is the only tough part to engineer. You'd have to slip them into a sleeve with negative terminal at the bottom and then fold over the positive cap and secure.

It would be the ultimate in headlight bands.

Edit: cyclops has been done but didn't see two mounted on sides that you could move around on pivots.
