New to me Boxster

I wasn't really shopping, but I found this 1999 close to me with 45k on the odo and a decent price.

I need to get out more: Nice!

peppy 01-23-2026 05:28 PM

I need to clean the garage it looks terrible!

The 2.5 is a great motor. Not the fastest but just has such a nice sound from startup through the gears. Congrats.

wdfifteen 01-23-2026 05:45 PM

Congratulations! Looks like a nice, fun car.

billybek 01-23-2026 05:46 PM

Very nice! Looks like a great score.

Painted roll bar, is that an option. Nice touch.

I've owned a 2002 Boxster S for about ten years. I bought it from my son when my 1972 911 was slated to spend about a year in rust repair and paint. The Boxster was only supposed to be a "stopgap" until the '72 was back on the road. Ten years later, it ain't going nowhere...

These are simply wonderful little cars. Maybe one of the most underrated Porsches ever. Very light and nimble, simple analog cars easily maintained at home by any competent DIY mechanic. Everything Porsche used to be. A far, far cry from today's bloated, overly complicated rolling computers. A real joy to drive as well.

Congratulations. Enjoy it. It will make a fine partner to your 911 it's sharing a garage with.

Gorgeous, Peppy - love the Silver! Congrats!!!

Got my '01 for $7K almost 2 years ago.

127K miles. IMS bearing upgrade completed by previous owner, & racing exhaust added.

Here's my 11 page thread w/photos starting at Post #81:

Congrats! They are really great cars.

Awesome! Very cool.

I came really close to getting an early S, I just couldn’t fit in it back in 2002 or so. Was burgundy with a dark tan interior, super sharp. Ended up getting my ‘86 911 cab instead, my first Porsche.

Totally classic Boxster! Great find, have fun!

rfuerst911sc 01-24-2026 03:31 AM

Congratulations , same color combo as my 986S . They are very nimble and just fun to drive . Get a baseline on all fluids and just drive it . Good luck

Higgins hit the nail on the head. "Underrated." I have an 02 S that has a few little mods and upgrades. It is a spectacular car. Took the wife to Sonoma in it las June. It rips if you want it to. Purrs if you like. Looks good. Wife was happy. Top down half of the drive.

Peppy, you are in for a treat.

oldE 01-24-2026 05:05 AM

Good score! Here's to smiles that make you wonder why you didn't do this sooner.

onewhippedpuppy 01-24-2026 06:04 AM

The best mod is free, remove the intake resonator from the LH fender vent and let that flat six sing!

peppy 01-24-2026 06:53 AM

I was able to get my wife to drive the car yesterday and I think she is coming around and will enjoy the car. She was not thrilled when I bought the car.

astrochex 01-24-2026 07:18 AM

Well done Peppy!

You do need to amend your signature. :D

Cajundaddy 01-24-2026 08:19 AM

Nice one! I had a 1998 in guards red and it was the most fun car I ever owned. Just a barrel of monkeys every time I got behind the wheel. No nannies.
