teeth.
I remember when I was a tiny kid, I asked my dentist at the time, "why couldnt nature make our teeth one solid bone, so we dont have to floss between them?"
(I paraphrase). he said because if we broke our one tooth we would be EFFED. Ahhhh!! I bet I was in 6th grade. I'm grouchy because I just lost another molar. dentist found a crack, I went to my own oral surgeon for a second look and he said, "I actually agree with your dentist - you can not clean down that deep for that crack with floss". "!@#$!$#!@ okay should I schedule an appointment, nothing hurts, it isn't loose" "we can do it now" implant #2 is underway. my dude is good. he is 100% pain free. he offered me prescription for pain go bye-bye pills, but I declined. I am operating under his rules. no drinking straws, no booze, no gargling, etc. my dentist retiring was such bad timing. hahaha...oh well. pudding for breakfast is fun. |
I'm reminded of the dentist in M*A*S*H, Painless.

Do they even do bridges anymore? Implants seem to be a long process not to mention the expense. At my age I wouldn't be bothered. I had braces so I know how a retainer works. Not the worst thing I've done.

Yes, I have one. It's been in for about 3 years now. It's a pain for flossing because one end is over a molar...hard to get the floss thru at that point on the gum-line. |
Is it safe?

By Darren OrfPublished: Dec 29, 2025 9:50 AM EST (to my understanding) Most tooth decay is from bacterial acids feeding off trapped sugars. Baking soda neutralizes this. A white spongy tongue indicates a culture breeding in the mouth. Use a tongue scraper. Hydrogen peroxide 50/50 is a nuclear option surfacant but use sparingly and briefly. Do not swallow. |
Teeth and gums are a pretty important piece of overall health so do what you can to maintain them. Two years ago I discovered the magic of a handheld Waterpic. Wow this really gets into all of the nooks and crannies in short order. My teeth and gums are in really great shape as a result of nightly use. I sorta think everyone should get one on their 60th birthday.

I have never had a cavity. My dentist says people with mouths at one end of the basic to acidic scale (I can’t recall which end) can be like this. However, my gums suck and I’m told that unless I floss for my life, my perfect teeth will all fall out.
My wife’s teeth are constantly cracking and crowns being installed and replaced. I think she’s putting my dentist’s kids through private school. I also have a mini-crush on my dentist. She’s quite hot. I mean, as hot as a woman with her fingers in your mouth can be. |
