Ohlins race stuff for cars and MC is a really great product. No doubt about it.

When Ohlins got into competition on the more freindly budget side with Bilstein and KW, they missed the mark IMO... Your opinion may vary.

We have installed the R/T on everything from 997/987 to E46 BMW and never felt there was a good match between spring rates and shock valving... again, your opinion may vary.

For what it is worth, I think they should have stuck with race/high performance stuff. Also not sure where the R/T stuff is manufactured if that matters to someone.

Guess we’ll find out! The Mazda community seems to believe the Ohlins are better than Bilstein and KW are overpriced. That’s coming from guys like Jeff Goodwin that have pretty well known race and performance shops.

They, Ohlins, may well have nailed that chassis well. We have ZERO experience on that car with Ohlins.... :)

Slowly making progress! Ended up short one OEM part to assemble the rears, and I decided to replace the front control arms “while I’m in there” because of an elusive low speed clunk that I want to eradicate. Basically everything is out and ready for new parts, pretty straightforward project so far. Thank God this thing is low mileage and bone dry underneath. I stuck the front struts in place finger tight just for fun, they at least look good!

So far the Ohlins RT have been the secret sauce for street legal dual sport 987s & 981s on "hot 200" tires out west. Several club championships in AX and Time Trial. Once you get into higher grip with R7 tires I think JRZ offers better fine tuning.

It’s done! I left it at the default settings and I definitely wouldn’t want lower for street use. I’ll drive it for a few weeks and then measure/adjust as needed and get it aligned.

Compared to my stock 32,000 mile suspension this is a revelation, something much closer to a Porsche in terms of damping and compliance while also stiffer. It absolutely rides nicer than stock, bumps are immediately damped as opposed to several oscillations and come through the car as a solid thud as opposed to the brittle rattle feel of stock. Pitch and roll are basically eliminated and it stays very flat when cornering. I can only compare to stock and my previous R3, this is substantially better in all regards. I’m happy!
