He didn't like it when people called it the 'Suicide Machine'.
He preferred the name 'Thanatron' A humane, painless death should be an option for the dying elderly. |
I just mentally went through this on Monday:
I’ve been having abdominal pain for a few years and was blaming it on a piece of gym equipment, but after two coughing fits after running races and feeling like my guts pushed out, I talked with my doctor and scheduled and ultrasound to check for a hernia. The results came back saying no hernia, so then my mind went right to cancer and what if? I figured I would only do treatment if the results were going to offset the negatives and if not, my plan was to load up the Porsche and visit all my friends one last time and maybe visit places I always wanted to see before I succumbed. I have no wife or kids, so what happens to my stuff and property, so I had this idea to find a young lady who would marry me with the understanding that it would be short and then she would get all my savings, stocks, stuff and house and could then restart her life while still young and now with some net worth. Doctor said nothing was found on my ultrasound, so I just got to do a mental exercise without a follow through at this point. |
^^^ That's great that they found nothing..maybe just a muscle thing from over activity?
Take it easy for a while and it might not return. What is your age? |
As an aside, the business of cancer is big business. I know that's a given, and I was made aware of that years ago when someone I respect told me that the worst thing that could happen to the Koman foundation would be a breast cancer cure. (duh, right?) I noticed today that I had a message in my inbox from Movember; just like Christmas, the seasonal begging begins earlier and earlier.
Rutager, I like the way you think. |

Yeah, the doc said maybe it was muscle or skeletal- not sure what my next step is going to be. I’m 57 |
Yeah, 57 is too young to have stuff like that...unless you are really pushing it.
I'll be 73 soon and have times that I get up in the am and a leg (or both) will feel like they are dead. Later on, they start to feel better. I can usually trace it back to over-doing it on the bike or dehydration. |

I’m 66 and turn 67 in 10 days. My parents passed away at 89 and 94 years old. Seeing them in their later years, it confirmed that I did not want to live like that.
At this point, I probably wouldn’t pursue any radical life-saving procedures. I’d like to go out peacefully, with plan B. |
I looked on Ebay and Amazon....couldn't find a Thanatron.
Oh well. :) |
