Father time, a cruel Bastid
Typing this all messed up...can't spend much time at the 'puter...had a fall Wednesday, a bad one. Really messed up my right ankle & knee. Ambulance ride to the local ER. Xrays, taped up, given pain pills, sent home. Just took the last of the pain pills, dunno what I'm gonna do when it wears off, because still hurts like a SOB with the pills, has me screaming if I move wrong when the pill wears off. An appointment with an orthopedic specialist Monday AM...hope he'll give me more pills...
My fault..must have been feeling too cocky about the progress I had made...just reaching in the fridge for some juice, stubbed a toe on the leg of the walker...down I went. I'd advise against living to be 82, but the alternative isn't so hot either...although it gets more attractive with each setback.

Sorry you’re going through that. But the worst days above ground still beat any days below. Hang in there.

Whoo, boy, that's a bad deal. Can an urgent care refil your prescription?
Sorry to hear you had a setback. Feel better!

Sorry to hear this. Try not to despair...this too shall pass.
My dad's advice to me as he approached 90 was this: "Son, don't get old". If it were only possible...

hey, hear ya. 75 went down the garden face first into the gravel, tripped over a light that I installed. Go figure, look like I went several rounds with a boxer.
Hang in there it will get better

Father time...a spill we'd think nothing of when in our teens or 20's becomes serious caca once 7-8 decades have passed. Thanks guys...for listening to the rant.

Just remember that a 5mg Norco is 325 mg acetaminophen compound. Yeah, the opioids do their job but the backbone or the pain killer is the acetaminophen. It can be hard on your liver but it takes time. Extra strength is 500mg and you can take up to 3000 mg a day reasonable safe. Drink water.
Usual disclaimer. The Holiday Inn was booked up.

Hope you heal quickly, Paul. I guess you can be happy you still have a good mind. An old girl friend I talk to once in a while, keeps telling me she's in a "facility." Asks me if I've finished my house. I say that was 17 years ago, and she says, "really." Sad to remember her from decades ago. At least you're not fighting that.

Thanks Milt....funny thing...my RN daughter just told me essentially the same thing.
Marv..yes. Recently lost a long time buddy to Alzheimer's...friends since grade school. How bright & fit was he when young? Fit enough that Uncle Sam placed him in the pilot's seat of an F-111. I'll never forget our final phone call...I cried.

Get better soon Paul. As Milt said acetaminophen may be your friend. Naproxen is also an OTC pain reliever, as is ibuprofen. Some work better than others for different kinds of pain. Ibuprofen helps with the arthritis in my hands, but doesn’t help my back or hips. Tramadol works on my back and hips, but doesn’t help my hands. You might want to experiment.

When I hear of folks a bit older than me taking a fall, it sends a shiver down my spine. Hate to hear of people or animals getting injured.
Hope you heal up fast.

Paul, when my wife had her second fall, resulting in three screws in her femur, she said it (finally) changed her approach to getting things done. She takes that extra half second to ensure she is "good to go ".
We adapt as the rules change. Hang in there, Buddy.

Good luck and take care of yourself Paul.
The fall is the easy part, getting back up is when it gets hard!

Hey Paul, I feel for you man. I do know what you're feeling. The best advice I can give you is to keep a positive attitude. I'm as serious as I can be about this.
By positive I mean focusing on the moment and being determined to get through it as best you can. Don't picture the "perfect" outcome, just be determined to get through it and do the best you can with whatever comes. By all means allow yourself a moment or two for "damn! damn! Damn!". Let it come then LET IT GO. Don't stay there. You will prevail.
