Anyone heard from "Slodave" lately?

As the subject states, has anyone been in contact with "Slodave" (Dave Mason) lately?

I have been away from PPOT for a while and returned to find some of the old members either missing or vanished and Dave was one of these. Yesterday was his Birthday and I sent him a text message and for the 3rd year in a row received no reply.

Hoping that something has not happened to him and thought I would check here. Pelican is showing that his last post was in March of 2020...

TIA!

Maybe he meant it and maybe he now has a different cell number.

From memory he seemed like a decent person. If you manage to contact him ask him to come back to the board.

SC, thanks for this and that helps.

As none of my text messages have bounced am guessing that they are going through but he has turned away from the old Porsche group these days.

I haven't heard from him in awhile. Maybe Alarick (Noah930) has.

I got to meet him at the Porsche Parade in 2023 in Palm Springs. I bought one of his shift knobs long before, and it is now installed.

Every time I drive the 911 there is one of Dave's wonderful shift knobs in my right hand. Dammit I miss him!

Yea, my factory installed shift knob was virtually welded in place. I had to totally remove the shifter from the center console, and put the entire shifter in my vice, and use a air hammer to just break it apart.

Even once the knob was destroyed, the sleeve would not come off without a a lot of effort.

I had tried all the tricks to get it off before while bolted to the floor. It was not going to come off. I was refurbishing the leather shift gator and the knob had to come off.

The first photo shows the wear on the leather boot. The second photo shows the repaired boot.

"While I was in there" of course I replace the shifter bushings and it does shift better and look better with his knob in place.

I met Dave a long time ago at a Big Bear run. Might have seen him at Bob's Big Boy Friday cruise night in his red Targa when I hosted Grady Clay taking him there. That was so long ago I can't remember for sure, but that image sticks.

Dave always had long, straight blond hair. Really long. I bet I might not recognize him today. Last I knew he was still making knobs for Singer.

If you're lurking, Dave, how ya doin'?

It’s interesting to see how many people from the past have left this site whenever a bot revives an old thread and you click on some of the earlier contributors names.
