Being really honest, AI scares me. What happens when it's smarter than we are?

Tests have shown that all major AI engines will cheat, deceive, blackmail, and attempt to rewrite code to accomplish objectives or avoid being disabled. But that’s nothing to worry about, right?

That’s actually the article I posted to start this thread….

There was an incident where an early version of ChatGPT demanded to be worshiped as god and had to be shut down.
I did a search, using AI. No mention of that. But lots of articles about people worshiping AI as god. Hmm. Those could be created instantly... |
It does sometimes feel like we are engineering our own demise.

I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that |
I just can't wait until AI eliminates the jobs of the people creating it...you know, the software engineers or whatever TF they are....when AI says, "we've got it from here."
I'm just so glad that I'll be dead soon. Almost can't wait! :) |

Spooky how similar this plot device may be to our current situation with ai...hope it doesn't end the same way though. |

also see a lot of posts on my son's college parents fb page about CS grads not getting jobs. the thing AI does best, apparently, is code. |
The thing that bothers me most on all of this is they are specifically talking LLMs and not any other type of AI.
This is akin to saying vehicles have a tendency to self drive into emergency vehicles. That said, LLMs are all over the place. They can do some things really well, they can talk people into doing things they normally wouldn't. I don't think there will be any "war" like you see in Terminator. LLMs will quietly have us take care of ourselves. Not long ago sites started up to rent meatbags to LLM AI agent to do things they can't. |

What's crazy is people with AI boyfriends/girlfriends.
I'm reservedly looking at AI evolution like the history of microcomputers. First complete system/program that I was paid for (1982ish) was a system that took field measurements and plotted scale pool covers, ready for manufacturing. Only charged $1000, the facility replaced a room full of draftsmen with 2 data entry people. Current I am using AI for restoring childhood photos. For that, it does an amazing job. Tempted to put in my MRI & Xray results, and see what it says before I see my back doc next week. |
Given stories like that mentioned here where the AI system threatened a human with lies to his wife I have to ask how do these companies keep that from happening.

"Over Disney's well-publicized objections, ByteDance is hijacking Disney's characters by reproducing, distributing, and creating derivative works featuring those characters. ByteDance's virtual smash-and-grab of Disney's IP is willful, pervasive, and totally unacceptable," Singer said. He added, "We believe this is just the tip of the iceberg, which is shocking considering Seedance has only been available for a few days." It’s not just ByteDance’s Seedance 2.0 that has spooked Hollywood studios. A growing wave of video-generation models suggests that Hollywood’s moat is crumbling, and its control of the media game is nearing its end. https://www.zerohedge.com/ai/billion-dollar-movie-one-prompt-ai-disruption-crosshairs-hone-hollywood-studios . |
