Venmo or Paypal or......

My brother wants to transfer money to me using venmo but I don't use any such like for cash transfers.

What is the group's view on such platforms?

I use PayPal and have for a long time without problems. I invoice customers with it and it is convenient.

I use PayPal but only for purchases on ebay. My wife and kids use Zelle for sending money. For instance, my kids pay us for their part of the phone bills and auto insurance and send the money with Zelle.

Venmo, Zelle, Paypal, seem to be the most common. I have all three. Handy to have. Ive never had a problem with them.

I have Venmo, PayPal, and Zelle through my bank. PayPal is convenient for EBay, Venmo is convenient for person to person transfers, Zelle seems to be what my kids like. I think Venmo is probably the most convenient and the one I use most often but the are all pretty similar.

Zelle is direct bank account to bank account. No need to later transfer to your own account.

I use Venmo very often (and have for years) for thousands of dollars/month in transactions and have had zero issues. I also use PayPal. No issues. These things seem pretty secure. Until you go read the thread on AI. :)

I use Paypal and Zelle, no issues. Paypal owns Venmo.

Make sure he does the transaction to you as a gift or whatever so a fee isn’t deducted.

The Venmo app is super-easy to use; and like all digital cash apps, I keep the amount of funds in the account it can access near zero, and transfer funds as necessary to fulfill a transaction.

This. I have all 3, and the advantage of Zelle is that it goes direct. With Paypal or Venmo there's a wait or a fee for instant transfer.

I use them all often and it's great.

As mentioned, Zelle is best.

I prefer Zelle, but it has a limit of $1K per day. I've bought a couple motorcycles and some parts and had to make multiple payments over several days. It really wasn't a problem. None of that stuff was of any urgency.

I use PP with my eBay purchases and have the option of a direct withdrawal from my bank account or my Discover card. I've been dinged before using the CC when dealing with someone outside of eBay, so the bank account is preferred in those situations.

I don't use a smart phone so Venmo is not available for my use.

Cash apps are fine for people you know and trust. If dealing with strangers, be careful.

He can always go analog, and mail you a check! :D

I have done that before. 3 different motorcycle purchase, IIRC. You'd be surprised how many are OK doing it this way. At least in dealing with vintage cars and motorcycles.

I occasionally use PayPal , I had one issue with a scammer and it was quickly resolved in my favor . I am not a heavy user but have had the account for quite a while .

Shaun @ Tru6 02-13-2026 12:17 PM

Zelle is the best of all three

MBAtarga 02-13-2026 12:26 PM

Ebay owns paypal - and for some ebay users paypal can have policies that are painful. Paypal does have a Friends and Family option to send money with no charge.

I'd suggest Zelle as it is an "official" app that banks suggest/allow.

FB - open a Venmo account, accept the $$. Close the account.
I’ve used Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal. Zelle is the only one I haven’t had trouble with as a seller. DO NOT ever use PayPal’s “buy now, pay later” scheme. Once they get their hooks in you it’s almost impossible to cancel your account. Twice I’ve had people try to run scams on me on Venmo.
