It was a bit startling when I came up on it. I would have found it confusing if I hadn't read about it somewhere (probably here). It only took a minute to realize, "Oh yeah, this is one of those DD things."

It's a colloquial expression that means something is either hard to do or easy to do. It only makes sense if you know the context.
Say a guy comes in, hands bleeding, clothes filthy. "Changing that truck tar was like puttin' socks on a rooster."
Or the guy comes in, hands and clothes clean and tidy. "Changing that truck tar was easy this time - socks on a rooster."
Don't blame me. I just speak hillbilly, I didn't invent it. :D:D
