Salvage title '73T sold on BAT

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-porsche-911t-coupe-56/

Hmmm, VIN plates removed...are we seeing a future "tribute" car or a future scam?
Gawd...I can't believe it sold for $26K...

not a mystery at all, the reverse actually. Saudi Arabia is authoritarian where corruption is the norm. The car can become anything with the right amount of money given to the right people. A lot of crashed 911s went to SA early in the bubble when people were still driving them and crashing them.

As I understand it is against federal law to tamper with a vin. I'm surprised BAT took the auction.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/511

Quote:
No, it is strictly illegal to sell, buy, or possess a motor vehicle with a tampered Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the United States.Under federal law (18 U.S.C. § 511), knowingly removing, altering, obliterating, or tampering with a VIN is a federal felony punishable by heavy fines and up to five years in prison.

Something doesn't add up as I doubt BAT would jeopardize their business. It's probably a good thing the original VIN plate isn't there because of the likeliness of ending up on another car.

I will say that rust at the rear window is some serious siht. I've done a rear package tray and no fun. There's a few hundred hours of sheet metal work just roughing in and fitting gaps where needed on that car. And plenty of bolt on replacements too. Anything that moves or unbolts gets replaced and you still have a hell of a job. And I can't see much, like the torsion tube and pans.

When every single panel or stamped part has rust, there's just no way. The title will find its way to another car.

Saudi Arabia has extremely cheap slave like bonded labor from Southeast Asia and Africa.
