Warning to Those Buying Auto Parts from eBay or Amazon
Torque Test Channel took a $500 batch of iridium plugs from NGK, Champion, and Denso bought from Rock Auto, Amazon, and eBay, and found that about one third were fakes.
https://www.thedrive.com/news/ridiculously-in-depth-spark-plug-test-shows-1-3-of-them-were-fakes I never buy auto parts off Amazon or eBay but know plenty of those who do. Stick with reputable sellers (like Pelican), or genuine dealer parts - though I've heard counterfeit parts are finding their way into dealer parts shelves too.

I watched this the other day. I can't imagine buying discount branded parts from eBay, and the only way that I would buy them from Amazon is if they were sold by Amazon and Prime (painless, easy return policy).

I agree. The few parts I have bought on Amazon are from a Ford dealer. Otherwise, I buy all of my parts online from Ford/dealers, F C P, Pelican, etc.
Many years ago, I bought Ford/Motorcraft TPMS sensors from eBay, priced too good to be true, but there were multiples of the same part being sold by others. Although they were labeled and packaged “properly”, they had to be counterfeit, as I got a TPMS fault soon after install, and continue to get them. Saw that last week. A guy has to do some homework before buying parts. Stuff like relays and sensors are a real crap shoot.

Counterfeit fasteners are out there as well...nuts & bolts not meeting their grade markings...scary stuff.

The re-seller is just the re-seller. That's the gist.
How much responsibility is on the middle-man...is up to debate. I don't know the answer. (Obviously there seems to be missing control systems.) The holders of the brand might share some of their own losses. Like fake handbags. To spread the brand name, market share, same as the major ones. They get a kickback when they corner the fakes. This system is almost like licensing. Except it happens below the surface.

I have been telling everyone for the last 5 years that the parts are mostly counterfeit.
The dealer is the only place I buy anymore, or I have to do it all over and over again.

I'm glad all the spark plugs in my cars will probably out last me.
