Who Wears Overalls?

I’m looking to buy some work pants, and noticed my preferred company sells overalls too. So every ad pic of a guy in overalls looks like the Village People, but I’m trying to be open-minded. What are the benefits? Drawbacks? Anyone here wear overalls?

I used to but got tired of the shoulder strap always falling down. I like loose fitting clothing but they became too loose as I got older.

i dont. but i could, just dont own any. not counting fishing bibs.

i just changed my tacoma oil yesterday. i wear my usual stuff. Dickies pants - black. whatever t-shirt i happen to have on, and my work coat, that looks like a gray lab coat. long trench coat thing that we got for fun as group of 911 enthusiast building our first race car. the footwear? i wore my green LaCross muck boots. i look like a 100% maniac doofus that doesnt own a mirror.

i am doing my thing and this very age appropriate, super hot lady walks by and says hi. i smile and say hi, and comment about her cute dog she is walking. she stares at me and i can tell she is resisting commenting. she says, "nice boots?"

i laugh and said, "well, i call this my I already have a wife" outfit. she started laughing, and we both crack up.

people..i still have it. i really do.

My dad was in the Navy and spent some time on submarines. When on submarines, they wore this sort of thing:

Technically, i think they are "coveralls". I prefer the full coverage sleeves and all.
These are great for things like working on the car, and probably a bunch of other tasks too. I haven't had any in years. I need to get some.

My style choice as well...used 'em all the time...think I still have them, despite no longer a use for them.

Exactly. If you're going to add a layer, cover up. Or better, strip down to your skivvies and wear the coveralls.

I can see the overalls in the heat though. Good lower protection w/o long sleeves and a collar if you don't need them. I just never got into that Mike Holmes look.

My step father wore them all his life. At one point he owned a Shell service station with two service bays. It also had an automated Ice Machine/house in front and he'd go to the ice plant every few weeks and bring back these huge slabs of ice in the bed of his 60's Apache Chevy truck and load them into the machine.

He also owned some Citrus groves and a couple rental houses and worked at those. And mowed with one of those Snapper Comet riders.

Wood extension ladders for painting the 2 story house and garage apt.

100% work ethic.

He was also the town Postmaster and retired Coast Guard, WWII and Korea. Active in the area men's clubs...Kiwanis, Rotary, Masons, Bahia, the whole 9 yards.

That's what gave me the idea to get some and my preferred brand has always been Dickies.

Just slip into a pair, zip 'em up, and you're good to go.

I always wear coveralls when I am working on cars. It has saved me countless pants and T-shirts from getting ruined. Of course that keeps my wife happy too. I also typically wear safety glasses, gloves and a hat whenever possible. The older I get the less I want to be recovering from stupid injuries.

I do too. When I worked for the Unilever factory we HAD to wear safety glasses in the factory. So now any time I'm doing something with tools "on with the safety glasses". I didn't used to wear safety glasses when using a strimmer but thank goodness for Unilever. A stone came up and hit my safety glasses. Nearly bowled me over LOL I would have surely lost an eye if I hadn't been wearing them.

I'm a coveralls man. Yep, keeps paint and grease of my very best t-shirts and jeans, so I can go to the pie shop looking the part .

One thing about overalls, it covers crack. We were at a car show some times ago with my boys. They were laughing at this middle age, skinny gentleman shooting pictures of the lower portion of this vehicle. He has one knee on the floor, and there it was, hair and all, just butt crack.

Why is it that crack never shows on young men but on older dudes even the skinny ones? They have the same body shape. I don't show crack and are in shorts / tee shirts fixing whatever around the house but never show one bit of it. When the day comes, I will considered overalls.

I have some Carhart work overalls.
Haven't used them in quite some time but they are tough and have lots of handy pockets.

I do... much of my career I worked outside climbing around bridges..buildings, exposed to the elements..

I have insulated Carhartt overalls, wearing them with a heavy Carhartt jacket, helmet liner and good gloves and boots, I could be comfy for hours..

I also have a pair of Carhartt denim overall that I wear when things are going to be messy..

I'm 65.... and 4 years retired.. I looked through my box of work clothes ... it's mostly Carhartt, and some is easily 30 years old and could still be worn..

I'm not a fashionista
