I got bent over buying a tire from TSC

A tire on my little trailer went south rather suddenly and rather loudly this afternoon. I was fuming that the mulch that I was hauling cost 30% more than it did last year - then the tire let go. I had no idea how bad I was about to be screwed.
I pulled into a parking lot - a guy there said it was OK to leave it until 4:00, then he'd have it towed. So I had 1 1/2 hours to get a tire and get the trailer out of there. Tractor Supply was the only local place that had a tire & wheel combo in 205/7.5 D14 size - and apparently they knew it. They charged me $193 plus tax - for a frikkin' trailer tire!
I got the trailer out of there with a few minutes to spare, but I sure paid for it. Checking prices, that's about double what I would have had to pay if I'd had time to shop around.

Maybe you could return the tire after you find one cheaper.

I need to find a spare "wheel" for my little trailer. So this doesn't happen to me.

And mulch has gone up!

I think the lube section is near the tires at TSC. You should have stopped there first.

Yeah, never a fun feeling when you think you got hosed. The guy letting him park the trailer was nice enough I guess. But the time crunch of "have it gone by 4" didn't help matters.

If it was $193 for just a trailer tire, then I'd think that was highway robbery. But to get a tire and wheel already mounted and ready to bolt right on, that doesn't sound too bad to me.

The price has come down on these zero turn wheels/tires sometime in the last year. They used to be about $175ea, I think, but they also used to come with Carlisle tires, and now come with "Deli" tires.

Harbor freight ST205/75R15 $150

Cheaper on Amazon. I used to carry spares on trailers, but after a long run of good luck, stopped.

Think it's time to buy some tires.

I've had trailer tires blow in the middle of no-where and bought a new one even though I had a spare. Paid through the nose, but you can't put a price on knowing you will get home and that was just so I still had a spare.
I'd just live with it.

That’s what I did with my Trailex trailer. I bought new tires for the new aluminum rims, plus a spare. Then, I used one of my old wheel tire combos as my second spare.

The 4 pm deadline guy was being a jerk. What could it hurt for the trailer to be there 18 hours? That said, I think a junk yard spare for future StuffHTF would probably be worth while peace of mind.

Side note: for years I put down bark or mulch around the flower beds at my old house until a friend pointed out that mulch is termite bait. Hmmmm. At my current home I went with small river rock. Expensive up front but a one time cost and no hassle after that.

Maybe the business shut down at 4? Or maybe they've been more lenient in the past and folks have taken advantage and left stuff long term. Or maybe that's a good ruse to light a fire under folks' arse to make sure that they take care of their crap.

To be honest you probably got a great deal Goodyear Endurance trailer tires run $200. China Bombs much cheaper but at least you won't be stranded.

I changed all my trailer tires to GY Endurance, seen too many blowouts with the cheaper China stuff.

It was some kind of sports bar thing with batting cages and a zillion wide screen TVs playing ball games that opened at 4:00. I can see him wanting the parking lot cleared of riff-raff before they opened. He was very nice about it.

It was a mounted tire. Amazon has them 2 for $188.

I wish it was a great quality tire, but the brand is "Good Ride," in the Goodyear script. LOL! I'm getting a new, good quality, tire put on the old rim and running it. The TSC tire will be my spare.

Those are the best rated trailer tire available. No question. 5 on my boat trailer was a grand. Not sure why you are so bitter.
