A Very Hard Day
My Mother would have been 89 today, the first birthday without her.
Got a small cheesecake and a Drambuie for her. ![]() ![]() ![]() A very hard day, and I am still recovering from surgery on my hand , having a procedure on my back tomorrow . So I’m laying in bed, and her phone rings, someone in her contacts . I answer it, a friend of hers who didn’t know that she passed and didn’t know it was her birthday.

My condolences as well. As much as it's the circle of life and the natural order and all that, it doesn't make you miss them any less. 89, (or 88), is pretty darn good...I'm glad that you had her that long.

This is tough. Sorry you are going through it.
I can’t imagine what it will be like when my dad passes on.

Hang in there Byron. After 5 years without my folks, the longing and pain remain unabated…but we learn to get on with it knowing that we are next and hoping that they are somehow watching and listening.

Byron,
The loss of someone so dear and integral to who we are is never easy. Given your current physical challenges, I am glad you chose to have a small celebration in her honor. I have little doubt that Moose and company can help you consume any cheesecake that might be surplus to requirements. I know we don't heal as fast as we used to., but get better soon.

Sorry Byron, that sucks. Take solace in the fact that 89 is a damn good run, and I’m sure she’s in a better place now smiling down upon you.

Sorry for the loss - I recall when you first posted about it a year ago. Time goes by quick.

My condolences Byron. Mom passed away last year just before my bday.
We did not have a synchronous day-to-day relationship, but were generally on the same page. Rediscover the good parts I missed. Still recompiling all the memories and where I went wrong as well. That will take a long time.

Sorry man, a hard day indeed. I lost my mom 3 years ago at age 89 to complications of dementia and the process was really hard to watch. Her selfless devotion to family was world class and we won the lotto in the mom department.
Wishing you comfort and healing when these emotions hit hard.
