genetic testing to predict medication effectiveness...
My wife has a variety of ailments and docs are constantly switching meds to try to find something that works. She has been researching genetic testing services that predict effectiveness of medications.
Has anybody here used any genetic testing services that were good at this? Any recommendations? |
My kids did this. It makes some big claims in terms of reducing the time to find the correct meds. No recommendations. Good luck.

Sounds interesting. Following.

It's a game changer for many cancers, esp breast, and a few rare genetic diseases that have led to targeted custom biologics (but at a cost of millions/patient).
Not so sure about other general ailments, maybe. It probably will develop, but determining how successful such an approach is with predicting success or failure based upon a persons genome, with say an antibiotic or a blood pressure medication, will take a ton of clinical trials with complicated statistical analysis. You also have to consider the adverse effects of the medications side of the equation, and most important, know the percentage and consequences of the algorithm recommending a wrong choice especially in time sensitive instances- like an infection. At this point, probably best to just follow a good physicians advice on treatment choices. Charles |
I do believe in medicine and the progress being made, but I'm also very interested in preventive approaches, like maintaining a healthy lifestyle, getting the right nutrients, and using vitamins or supplements when they actually make sense. For me, prevention is often just as important as treatment, especially when it comes to staying healthy over the long term. I've been looking into different options and noticed that Omega XL reviews are quite positive, with many people sharing their personal experiences. Of course, I always think it's worth doing proper research and talking with professionals when needed before trying anything new.
