Snack Thread

Always looking for fast, easy, good tasting snacks.

Nathans battered onion rings fit the bill.
I put them in the toaster oven set at 425 for 12 minutes.
They come out crispy on the outside and I dip them in Chick-fil-A sauce...very tasty.

You and all of your health food!

^^^ says right on the bag..."zero grams trans fat"
Whatever that means? :)

And they are not like McD's onion rings which are finely chopped onions in the battter.
These are actual/real onion rings!

pistachios
triple cream Costco brie
plums, bananas, grapes, cherries

I’ve never even seen or heard of those onion rings! I’m going to have to find them!

stevej37 08-16-2026 12:54 PM

^^^
I love pistachios....and cashews.

I buy them at Meijer...I'm guessing that Walmart has them also.
Sold in the frozen veggie section...near the frozen garlic bread.

Depending on how many servings....a handful or 6-8 rings are plenty for one person.
They need to be not overlapping while heating them up.

The Chick sauce really is a must.

Good onion rings are awesome. I haven't had any good ones in years (10, 15, 20 maybe). The fast food places used to have real onion rings, but it's definitely been decades since I had any at a fast food chain.

^^^ I'm not a 'french fry fan' at all. If I can sub onion rings for the fries...I do it every time.
But they really do need a dipping sauce...and a honey mustard works great.

I snack on this fruit I make up.

^^^ That looks tasty.
When I go to the store for a fruit bowl here....they always have them loaded up with watermelon and cantaloupe chunks . Then a few grapes and small pieces of strawberries. A bowl the size of yours will be at least $15 and it's life is not long here.

Yep, when visiting my mom, she used to make "fruit salad" and it looked the same. It was usually a variety of fruit, and then she'd pour fruit juice over it. I would think that the fruit juice would act as a bit of a preservative. I also like to sprinkle pecans over the top, and also like to add some banana that soaks in it for a day, but I also just slice banana over the top.

Interesting. I've never eaten rings with a sauce.

I do like fries, and my current favorite dip for fries is chipotle mayo.

stevej37 08-17-2026 11:34 AM

^^^ Chipotle Mayo sounds good on them....I might try that.

If fries are the only choice...I ask for just mayo. I think ketchup just makes them worse.

chipotle mayo is good on just about anything. I don't like plain mayo, but chipotle mayo is awesome. I like the "Sir Kensington" brand.

my next condiment of choice is mustard, and there's a nice variety. Sometimes I like a plain yellow style, but sometimes I like the dark or stone ground or whatever.

Regular ketchup is not my thing, but I've had a good ketchup recently, I don't remember if it's Rao's brand or maybe the Sir Kensington. I think it may have been Rao brand.

Chick fil a sauce is great! I find adding a little horseradish really wakes it up.

Yeah...I go through a lot of it.

A favorite snack for me is Boursin on saltine crackers in the afternoons.
