The old girl is saying, "I'm a farm truck. What's the big deal?"

Unclebilly, is anyone around your neck of the woods using the big square balers? About a half ton per bale and easier stacking ( with a telehandler)one of the farms around here was trying one out this summer.

I’d say 15% of the people around here use large squares.

The trouble is feeding them. You pretty well need a big bale processor to feed them, whereas a round is easy to unroll… because they are round. I find it easier to unroll a bale than to use my bale processor most of the time.

One of my friends raises longhorns as a hobby. He has most of a 1/4 section, so lots of hay fields. When he first bought the place, he went to a farm equipment sale. There was the small square hay bailer that no one was bidding on. She he got it super cheap. Then he used it the first time, and remembered he was not 21 anymore, and tossing bales was all he could do, and he was super sore for a week after that.

He took it back to the equipment sale and put it on sale, and bought a round hail bailer. Lots easier on his back. He bought a farm truck, and installed the spike on the back to move them around. He usually has excess hay he donates to some fellow rancher in need after a fire.

He was returning from the feed store one day when some dipstick was tailgating. He just lowered that spike, and for some reason the tailgater decided to back off.

I only ever see the big round bales around here. Very occasionally I'll see the little rectangular bales, but I think that most of the time they are used as some sort of fall decoration. I know the folks that we bought our house from had 2 horses and they left some small rectangles in the barn.

We still use the old equipment my FIL had ( except for our little New Holland), as we're only feeding 4 lawn ornaments.
