26 year old passenger ferry flips and sinks near Cypress
I can’t wrap my head around this. Yesterday, a modern passenger cat with 269 people on board flipped over and eventually sank 4 miles into its journey. Living on an island for much of my adolescence, I spent a lot of time on ferry boats.
239 people were rescued, 8 confirmed dead and 22 or 23 are still missing. This was not an old boat, this was not a 3rd world country where things like this are more common. Supposedly is was rough and they delayed the trip by an hour. The rescue footage shows maybe a 4’ sea so not that bad. https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/details/8962034 https://youtu.be/pyBfC-5QzRQ?si=XGa-iEybh46z2xt4 https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cq62j4m1lvn3t

How long were people in the water before rescue got there? The water didn't look that rough to me.
This is coming from someone who is not a fan of water. I have an irrational phobia of water and boats. But looking at that water, I would have boarded a ferry and never thought it would sink.

That sea looks pretty mild for a 131 ft ship and what I assume was a professional crew. It does seem crazy to have something like this happen in 2026.
