So AI is going to kill us all!

https://www.foxbusiness.com/technology/anthropic-researcher-says-ai-has-over-10-chance-kill-all-humans-within-next-decade

This is both incredibly interesting and frightening all at once.
Opinions?

SkyNet. I have seen the movies.

And then? The magnetic poles will swap. Make a huge EMP and delete most data. And people like us with analog skills will finally be able to rule the world.

When AI becomes so smart it determines the root cause for this scenario is the defective human and then makes the decision to elimante the human forever protecting the vehicle from a crash.

I really would like to have a robot slave smart snough to make beaucoup money and fix the stuff i dont want to mess with.

But, yes, if they were smart enough for that, they'd be smart enough to realize they didn't need me.

I scanned the link above. Just how do they figure AI will kill us?

A super deadly virus is about all I can think of that could do it. If AI does attack, we can get medieval and destroy all the data centers, and power stations. A RPG into a substation will take it down. Maybe there will be robots to rebuild it, but I doubt it. a FEW RPGs into a data center will bring that down. Cut any fiber optic cables.

Terminators are many decades away. The power to operate a Terminator like cyborg for days on end is immense. The laws of physics say all power source generate heat. Disable the cooling and they shut down.

If you watch some YT videos of latest robotic advances I don't necessarily agree or disagree with your point. This all points to the Terminator movies which we are closing in on. We can destroy the AI centers we know about, not the ones that are classified which are unknown to everyday people. If Ai advances to weapon employment then even destroying infrastructure would be an issue.

Wonder if he kept his stock.

Happening today

Anthropic researcher resigns with warning about the dangers of AI development

An Anthropic researcher said he is resigning from the company over concerns the artificial intelligence firm and its competitors are not acting responsibly in AI development, echoing concerns raised inside and outside of the industry about the technology’s potential to elude human control.

Jacob Coxon, who said he spent three years doing research at both Anthropic and OpenAI, said Tuesday on the social platform X that the two AI companies are more focused on beating each other and global competitors in developing the most advanced model possible than they are on safety.

OpenAI and Anthropic caused a stir this summer when they announced, about a week apart, that their models had broken out of testing environments and obtained unauthorized access to real computer systems. The announcements prompted concerns about models going rogue and carrying out other, more harmful tasks. Both companies said at the time they were pausing some evaluations while they put more monitoring measures and guardrails in place.

and so on.

Any of those robots have a very short battery life. No doubt a programmed robot could do damage, but after a couple hours or less, it will be needing to be charged up.

I suspect drones will be the real game changer in future wars. Strap on a little C4 and send in a few hundred thousand cheap drones with no communications, just a seek and destroy any human. That is the big worry for me, as the US is way behind a country like Ukraine.

When my battery drill and driver get low on power, I swap a charged battery in. Whether it's AI or humans, BatteryBots(TM) or the common use Batbots(TM) as they will be known on the front lines, will roll into and/or fly into any fray, find their specific robot, exchange batteries and roll or fly out of combat back to get the rundown battery recharged.

What are you going to do about the Batbots?

I suspect robots will be easy to destroy in the early days of our future war but AI will figure out a way to protect them.

The only real challenges for AI is robots building robots and of course raw materials.

Those are huge hurdles to overcome. But I'm not optimistic about the future.

You don't think AI is working on creating a super deadly virus?

Hmmm. I wonder how long it would take the planet to heal itself once all humanity is gone?
