Is anyone reserving a REO?

https://reotrucks.com/

It almost sounds like the return of the International Scout.

Apparently I'm not the only one who's been wondering about a strong market for something like this.

If I were car shopping I'd be all over one in a moment.

I bought my 2017 GMC with the idea that it would be my last truck. SLE so it doesn't have crazy electronics, 5.3 LS, 6L80.

It's been trouble free @ 80K, but I'm assuming that I will soon want to replace the torque converter before the clutch comes apart. If you wait for it to fail, you are fully rebuilding the trans.

Also, DOD failures dog the motor. It looks like the best move with that is to wait until a lifter fails (which seems to happen on a large minority of DOD motors), then replace the cam and lifters with non-DOD parts. Not trivial, but my boss did his son-in-laws Yukon in a weekend.

As described, the REO is probably smaller than I want. If the off road capability is good enough, I might want one instead of a side by side to keep at camp.

Curious what issues are making your Tundra a POS ? Toyota quality slipping ?

If the Slate fails,I bet REO folds before their first milestone. If the Slate succeeds, then the REO will be selling to the same niche market as the Slate.

Assuming a 2030 delivery date, I might be in the market for one since my Slate would be about 3 years old by then, and the value would be close to a direct trade.

Do they make a high performance model that's enclosed?

They could call it the "Speedwagon"!

REO
Ransom Eli Olds (oldsmobile)

Quote:
The REO Speed Wagon (alternatively Reo Speedwagon) was a light motor truck model manufactured by REO Motor Car Company. It is an ancestor of the pickup truck.
First introduced in 1915, production continued through at least 1953, and made REO (the initials of its founder, Ransom Eli Olds) one of the better-known manufacturers of commercial vehicles in America prior to World War II.

For a refundable $25 (even if you don't get it back), why not? It's not coming out for a while, so maybe. Luckily I didn't exercise my option to buy a Fisker Ocean! The timing wasn't right, and I never did test drive one. I have a deposit on a Scout.

I wonder what four cylinder engine will they use ? And what transmissions and transfer case ? Beyond just saying manual and automatic I want to know specifics .

Yeah maybe it's too early for specifics , but I would think the company knows if they are roughly two years away from customer delivery . I am quite tempted to put down the deposit .

Specifics? You want specifics? As far as I can see you are buying into a shadow.

So let's say I start the idea of a cheap truck company and take $25 "reservations" and do jack. I get the float of all those deposits until I decide to toss the towel and send them back. If I do send them back. Of course I would go the way of Elizabeth Holmes unless I studied her case, ducked out a little before, and go to Vietnam.

Depending on how much money I raise I might even draw the thing in chalk on the floor. Hey, that's progress.

I was #4404 when I posted previously. I am a total believer in what they are trying to do. Even if the outcome is that Toyota or others bring their basic trucks to North America, this is a win.
