To me, that phrase has always been on the same plane as "she's pretty smart, for a girl..."

I understand exactly what you mean!
What I meant was that I've learned not to judge by appearances.
My daughter's best friend has large gauge piercings (Really gross to my eye) and except for her face and ears is covered in tattoos of little stars, spaceships meteors - a walking constellationchart for the starship Enterprise. Much more discreet than it sounds as they mostly look like coloured freckles until one's very close. My first impression was not positive, however, she is one of nicest people I have ever known and someone that would be there to help whenever necessary. I do wish that she had a more conventional appearance though.

This is really what I prefer.

Uh, would you care to describe those "esoteric practices" in more detail? At my age, vicarous pleasure is often the most I can hope for.

Nothing that would be suitable for the family audience on Pelican.
Just a lot about body modification culture. I think part of it was to try and show me there are much weirder folks around than my chick and her friends. Even if I found most of it gross it does exert a morbid sort of fascination, like not being able to look away from a road accident.

Unless my phone had a HUGE telephoto lens, you wouldn't catch me that close to a snake (willingly). I hate 'em. Totally unreasonable fear, I know, but I can't stand them.

Agreed. The only thing I fear more than snakes is ....

snakes...

I hate spiders too!

-Z-man.

PS: Go ahead, call me a girly-girl. I still fear snakes.

I don't like them either, mainly due to the fact that I can't "read" them... don't know when he's upset or annoyed w/ me, unlike w/ dogs, cats, etc.

They are still incredibly fascinating, and I love petting them, I'm just never sure...

Good thing to know though, is that when they are in this position (swallowing) they are most vulnerable. Unable to do much. Can't spit it out. They are on the verge of suffocating... almost.... so you'll be ok
