Here's the skinny on her....

She's at Spartanburg South Carolina's Humane Society.

Kiwi - A13806316

Kiwi is a 2 year old tricolor Australian cattle dog mix who was brought to the shelter as a stray. This sweet girl is hard to resist once you see her dancing with excitement to meet you! The Good Samaritan who brought Kiwi to the SHS tells us that she did very well with her children and loves attention. Kiwi loves to give kisses when she's not too busy snuggling, and will happily greet you with a wiggle of her cute, stubby little tail! She can sometimes be a bit picky about other dogs, and will need to meet any other dogs in the household before adoption to help ensure a happy and lasting new home. Australian cattle dogs, in general, are very smart and active dogs. They were originally bred to work driving livestock. Their energy level and drive can sometimes make them challenging as family pets. Without a “job” to do, they will often get into trouble finding “work” of their own. These dogs are often turned into animal shelters for being destructive, too active, or for herding (following and chasing) family members. Adopters should be prepared to give Kiwi a positive outlet for her energy and intelligence. Training classes are a must, and interactive sports like agility and Frisbee offer the mental and physical stimulation dogs like Kiwi need to thrive, all while helping you build a stronger bond with your new companion! Visit this delightful girl today to find out more about welcoming her into your heart and your home.

Here's a short video clip of her that will tug at your heart strings:

If you can spread the word --- maybe we can find her a forever home!

Here are some details about her:
Spartanburg, SC: Kiwi #13806316

Approximately 2 years old, unaltered female, black and white Australian Cattle Dog mix. Surrendered to the shelter over the counter as a stray by someone who found her wandering in the Wellford area. No microchip found, unclaimed. Approaches readily in kennel, social. Finder reports that she got along well with her children and likes attention.

Medical Info:
Tested negative for heartworm disease, approximately 36.00 pounds. Some tartar on molars. Some hair loss/thinning hair noted on back/rear region- waiting for vet diagnosis.

Behavior Evaluation:
-No handling issues noted: Jumped up to lick assessor’s face, accepted petting with relaxed body posture during handling exercises.
-Nervous around loud noise/sudden movement: Followed assessor at end of leash, a bit fearful during “tag” exercise.
-No indications of food aggression or resource guarding noted.

Dog Aggression:
We tested Kiwi with a large, adult male dog. She was nervous at first, ears back, head down, and still. She seemed fine once the other dog lost interest, but then began barking at him towards the end of the exercise when she was leaving. Would likely benefit from slow introductions to other dogs.

PLEASE CROSS POST TO YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE and any other talk forums you belong to...she doesn't have much more time.
Thanks for any interest and for helping anyway you can!

This breed makes a wonderful family pet - you do not need some big property for them - they do fine as a "house dog".

shes very tempting. If we didnt just rescue our boxer, I would have jumped on it.

What a cutie. If we had room for a third...

The pup, not the mole.

He was not alone. If you want the rest of his family to move out, then bury his carcass inside a mole run.

Yeah I know Steve....I already have two myself...both girls and both wonderful. Did you view her video? You can tell she is a sweetie. I only wish her tail hadn't been docked. It's actually illegal to dock their tails in Australia. Of course here in the US we have our share of rednecks who love to cut animals to balance out their insecurities...

This breed has a beautiful bushy tail that serves several purposes - it acts as a rudder and to help balance when they are running and also has a little white tip at the tail so ranchers can see them better at night.

Here are my 2 - "Billabong" on the right is a rescue and someone had docked her tail - "Winkipop" on the left I raised from a baby...

And here's an "action shot" showing them in motion - with the tail in use...Billabong cornering like a 914! :)
