The shooter with the hand gun, I am thinking was from the animals that escaped
yesterday (Lions, tigers and bears et al) when the owner let them loose and killed himself. Ohio?

Many states in the West have reopened 'Open Hunting' on the wolves which only a few short years ago had been on the endangered list. It is a tough subject as the ranchers do lose cattle and other livestock to the packs.

However by the numbers wolves account for less than a percent or two of the total losses including other factors such as Dogs, Coyote, weather and sickness. I am of the firm belief that the Wolves belong here. Losses should certainly be avoided though preventative means as much as possible. However those should not include extermination of an indigenous breed to reduce losses by 1-2%. Further these losses must be calculated into the cost of doing business and not as an excuse all over again for open hunting.

Just my 0.2c

Lady got tired of joeblow's mangy mutt shyttin' in her yard.

Photo was taken by one of my hunting partner's buddies who guides around Headquarters, Idaho. The nice lady was bow hunting elk and using a cow call to locate some. Seems this guy answered the call. 183 pounds of cute, cuddly gray wolf.

She says they first spotted one another about 50 yards apart. Wind was at her back, so he undoubtedly got a nose full of her. She raised her arms and screamed like a girl, and he came after her. She dropped her bow and unlimbered the 6" M29 shown. First shot took him over the left eye at about ten feet, and turned him, but did not kill him. Second one through the lungs didn't kill him either. Third one through the back of the neck did the trick. He probably even dropped his chew toy.

She shot herself a world record!! From wikipedia:

The heaviest recorded gray wolf in North America was killed on 70 Mile River in east-central Alaska on July 12, 1939 and weighed 79.4 kilograms (175 lb)

No offence but I call BS! That is a nice story you tell so you dont get busted for illegal take downs out of season. Not only is this the largest Wolf ever recorded but also one hunting alone, attacking a human unprovoked, and all the while knowing she was there and not retreating....yep that happens all the time.

She is extremely lucky being a prize hunter and finding a world record Wolf and being attacked and having to protect herself! Heck there have been only 27 wolf attacks recorded dating back to the Colonization of the Americas. She might want to go out and buy a lottery ticket or two right away.

OK rant off....

In the immortal words of our own inimitable Oddjob Uno, "cheese and rice!!!". C'mon, guys, how hard can it be? This story has been plastered all over the interwebs and going around in email chains like wildfire. There has to be at least a dozen versions of it, in the finest tradition of this oh-so-modern and efficient means of communication. And, better yet, the one I presented is actually mostly true.

Idaho Bowhunter Reportedly Kills Charging Wolf - News Story - NBCMontana NBC Montana

As you can see, (once again quoting one of our own, our candidate for Police Officer of the Year - Silverwhaletail) "it was a righteous shoot". The nice lady actually had a legal wolf tag, and was hunting in a legal, open wolf unit. She would have no reason to make up some story to cover her ass. That, and I bet the wolf had a golf club that, when seconds count, could have easily been mistaken for a dangerous weapon. Sorry to ruin your "aha!" moment, blowjoe. Oh, and by the way, you really need to cross check your "facts" on wolves with someone a little more objective than PETA, ALF, or the Sierra Club. That, and maybe untwist your panties a turn or two. Cute pup, too, by the way.

I worked for his daughter and SIL in CT on their horse ranch when I was in HS! All the buildings were stone including the horse barns and main house.

I bet you didn't know hay can give you hives!
